Re: Feeling lonely around people

Remember, the sessions are for you YOU because you deserve it @creative_writer . Have a think about what you want to get out of the sessions, and see if you can steer the sessions this way. You are in charge 🙂

I used to just go with the flow with my psych sessions. Now, I go in all prepared with everything I want to debrief and talk about.

The sessions have been super useful since.

@tyme, I will have a think about what I want to achieve from the sessions. Each support has a different role to play. It’s hard when starting off, I’ve known my psych for a while so it makes sense for me to feel the most comfortable with her, I am starting to feel more comfortable with pdoc. Maybe it’ll take a while till I feel more comfortable with counsellor, it’s still very early days. I think part of the reason why I feel frustrated is because even though I’ve had the opportunity to debrief this week, I haven’t really utilised it, hence why there is a build up. I’m afraid of trusting the wrong person too, I know counselling sessions are a confidential and safe place to share things, but I’m scared

I hear you about being scared of opening up too much @creative_writer . These feelings are very valid. would you consider telling your therapist that? Sometimes, opening up and even starting with, "I have fears about opening up...." can make a difference to the therapeutic relationship.

Just food for thought. No pressure. You must feel ready for it.

Re: Feeling lonely around people

@tyme, I have time to think about it, the counsellor is away for a bit.

It might be easier opening up slowly too, I don’t need to dive straight in. I don’t intend to do the deeper work with her, I have my psych for that. I can’t help but feel like I’ve gone a bit backwards in recovery though. I’m trying to figure out what I need to right to to ease the feelings of emotional suffocation. I guess my brain is wired to ruminate from the moment I wake up till the moment I sleep. I wish it wasn’t as intense. Why am I so focused on what has been lost and not on what I can achieve in the future?

I'm hearing you. Focusing on the loss can soon be become a natural path for your thoughts to go. Remember, you mentioned you do it from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. Think about all those hours your brain has had to perfect the art of ruminating? @creative_writer

From my perspective, I don't believe it's so much about focusing on what you have lost or what you can achieve in the future, but more so to focus on the now. What's happening right now? Where are you feeling it? What does it look like?

There's a lot of brain re-training to do. This takes time. 🙂

@tyme, yeah, it’s going to take a lot of rewiring. I just can’t go on like this, I’m getting nothing done, I feel like a lousy potato. Focusing on loss is what is keeping me stuck, it’s about moving past that. I guess humans naturally lose and gain things over the life. I am more productive if I study because I am working towards something. I guess I need to learn to be more present in everyday activities.

I haven't studied in about 15-2 years now. After the break, I feel like I do want to go back and study something light... maybe some certificate or something. @creative_writer . Not sure what yet. Maybe social work? mental health? I've done a lot of high level studies, so I want to do something lighter for my own interest sake.

@tyme, sometimes it is confusing when there are so many choices. I feel like studying does give you a purpose.

I think I need to shift the content I look or listen to since it can feed the rumination
