“I don’t need people” state of mind

“I don’t need people” state of mind

Lately I’ve found myself withdrawing more and more into myself. I’m not sure if this is a trauma response or maybe I am burnt out because things were rough for so long. The recent Uni assignments plus mixed episode (funny how the brain can experience depressive and hypo manic symptoms all at once) has left me emotionally exhausted and lousy. Like I am in a better place now, I no longer feel like ending myself, or look for ways how I could do it. I feel a lack of motivation to socialise, even come on these forums or call helplines when I start feeling anxious. Like I rather just depend on myself, because we live alone, deal with things alone and leave this world alone. I just don’t feel bothered either, I rather just do things to distract myself. Maybe I’m feeling the anxiety more because I didn’t sleep well, you gotta thank the earth for that good shake last night

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, I think I somehow need to motivate myself to do things. I can’t get myself to clean my room or start studying for the semester coming up. I feel so physically and mentally exhausted. I guess it’s just the migraine hangeover still lurking around. I know curling up in bed won’t do me any favours. I know I am in no way able to do something extremely strenuous, but something a bit more gentle might work better. I should leave the house even if I don’t go far, I always have Mother Nature, but my motivation is running so low. I guess slowly, slowly….

I’m not sure if I could refrain from thinking about things completely, I think my mindset needs changing since I am always thinking about how people would judge me if they knew. Then again, my psych knows a lot of it, but doesn’t blame me. It’s strange how we feel responsible for sins that weren’t even ours to begin with

Hi @creative_writer

I say my days are like "Burning Daylight".

The end of the day comes and l think i have wasted the whole day. I do what l have to. I have a printing factory. Stuff everywhere. I work alobe so no one to inspire me. So taking the excess to the market and selling stuff is helping my mind.

I feel the same exhaustion you mention.

Hence me saying l watch tv.

I agree you should leave the house for short steps. I enjoy a short walk around the block. I say hello to people and continue.

So i agree. Slowly slowly.

I never said refrain from the past completely. Your past made you who you are. Lessons learnt will help others when you are ready.

Write notes of special times or references.

I do hear you seem concerned of others judging you. You cannot stop them. Do not feed them with information to use.

I am lucky because l think l do my best, try and hel others, and unless l need correcting, i do not care how others judge me.

You sound gentle and caring.

We can never please everyone.

Why do you focus so much on what others think?

I hope at uni you will find at least one to sit with.

Hi @creative_writer

I will take a chance here.

Have you read Desiderata:

It is also a song you may have heard

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, I do feel like I’ve been wasting so many days lately, but then, I’m on a short break too. It wouldn’t have been realistic for me to have done tons of writing, cleaning and lots of going out after life had been so rough for so long. I’m still not 100% physically well, these things take time.

I feel like lived experience does give you some insight. Many health professionals do have lived experiences and are still very good at their job. It’s about learning to separate oneself from their clients/patients.

The thing with trauma, I don’t think it was meant to break me, but to build me and make me stronger and more worthy. These culture ingrained norms are difficult to unlearn and take time, but slowly, slowly….

I am learning to be social with uni. I just hope with time as my mental and physical health improve, things will feel easier

Hi @creative_writer

I cannot believe your wisdom in writing.

I laugh with you

I heard a Sermon on "Unlearning"

You are spot on. We have to unlearn things bought on us. Times have changed to. Single women could not keep their children. Culture did not allow it. That had to be "unlearned" it is not true.

With my faith we are told we will be tested but not broken. Sometimes that is knowing our limits.

Sometimes we need to sit in the other seat and listen to our own advice.

You seem to have the correct formulas.

Do not focus on yesterday.

Do you think you can walk around the block tomortow for 5 minutes and smell the roses. At a snails pace. Think about your steps or the gardens. So much to look forward to if we focus on today.

Today l say. Tomorrow has its own challenges and has not begun. Day by day.

Do you like Desiderata?

@Former-Member, I think women are often fighting for their rights and freedoms, we have a long way to go, but at least schools are not educating boys to respect girls and women

Tomorrow is another day, I can set small goals. I want to make the most out of my last week off.

Desiderata does use interesting philosophy, it’s sort of like affirmations in a way

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

Hi @creative_writer

Dezsiderata. Affirmations. I thought it was older, but excellent words in 1927 that are relevant to me today.

The women reference was about Unlearning Cultural expectations.

I agree tomorrow is another day. I may load my car and sell at Sunday market. This is so far away from my safety zone. But it is a forward step to getting somewhat back to my previous productive life.

Funny, walking around the block during covid l met one neighbour in particular. She thinks she has so many bad things happenjng. I think if only you knew mine. But she, like others is only worried about her issues. The point of me telling you this is, it got me out, i know she wants someone to listen to her and l do not have to talk about me. So l can only be judged as a good listener.

If you venture out, i would like to hear what you did.

You know what to do.

Dont stop yourself from having 5 minutes away from the past

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, do you know why I want to be in bed? I feel safe, I don’t have to mask when I’m alone, though I still can’t let myself go since they are other people in the house. Ugly crying will have to wait, it’s been on hold for a very long time.

I hope selling at the Sunday market this weekend goes well. You sound pretty courageous in setting that goal since it is out of your safety comfort.

I’ll see what I do today. I’ll be having lunch soon and will watch TV with that, then I have an online Arabic reading class for a bit

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

I’ll hold my breathe to prevent the tears from seeping. If I do cry alone at night, I’ll do it quietly.

If you say the right things, people will think you’re doing well, they want you to do well, sitting with uncomfortable feelings is not something they want to do. You’ve tried so hard to be normal, but you just can’t, so masking it is the only option. People are better off thinking meds and therapy have normalised your emotions. But I am still miserable, just not in so much agony and not suicidal as before. It may not hurt as much as it used to, but it still hurts

Hugs @creative_writer . I hear it hurts.

We are sitting with you in this discomfort and by doing so, perhaps it will make it more bearable.
