“I don’t need people” state of mind

“I don’t need people” state of mind

Lately I’ve found myself withdrawing more and more into myself. I’m not sure if this is a trauma response or maybe I am burnt out because things were rough for so long. The recent Uni assignments plus mixed episode (funny how the brain can experience depressive and hypo manic symptoms all at once) has left me emotionally exhausted and lousy. Like I am in a better place now, I no longer feel like ending myself, or look for ways how I could do it. I feel a lack of motivation to socialise, even come on these forums or call helplines when I start feeling anxious. Like I rather just depend on myself, because we live alone, deal with things alone and leave this world alone. I just don’t feel bothered either, I rather just do things to distract myself. Maybe I’m feeling the anxiety more because I didn’t sleep well, you gotta thank the earth for that good shake last night

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, once I had a random unqualified volunteer at the hospital tell me the distress I felt was caused by the devil. The thing is people forget we don’t just exist on a spiritual dimension, there are so many variables at play for MH from biology to thought patterns to environment. I think sense of belonging is a human need, I just haven’t found it yet, maybe someday….

It’s been lovely talking to you too

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

Hi @creative_writer

Qualified or Unqualified the volunteer, or no one has the right to say (1) what caused it and (2) it was the devil.

I am not sure what your spritual direction is.

Sadlybin churches some people think they are God. They are hypocrites and a danger to vulnerable people. But it also happens outside the church.

You seem unsure how much to open to Counsellor. I met someone awhile ago. They refused to say anything about themselves. I also refused to about me. So we both stood there. You should give counsellor something to work with. Not everything. And if uncompfortable try another. I am sure you have done that.

So many people live by themselves. Me too. I always said if l want company l can go out. But usually l am happy by myself. Glad to see you socialising in this forum.

I say Stop finding problems with ourselves. That is what everyone else does telling us how to be.

I am a bit confused if you are lonely or if you think you should be a certain way that you may not meant to be.

It appears you chat in small groups or one on one. Does that bother you? I am the same and have no issue. Listen to the rubbish many big ego people talk in groups. I prefer our one on one chats. Maybe you think l am wrong. I am happy in peace

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, I was sort of in emergency at the hospital that day for my MH. The Muslim lady asked me why I was there. Though I think I would be a lot more guarded now with what I disclose. I think there are way too many misconceptions regarding MH that it’s dangerous.

I think it tends to be a hit or miss with a lot of counsellors and psychs. I’ve given up trying to force rapport and only try to have people I work well with on my support team. I had a really awful experience with one of a past psychiatrists I saw, I didn’t tell her everything, but enough for her to blame me, accuse me of making up symptoms and accuse me of manipulation, like I was intentionally keeping stuff from her when I just didn’t feel comfortable opening old wounds. I accepted she didn’t care about me, I dumped her and moved on. When you care about someone you do not text during appointments.

I think deep inside I am lonely, but I try to push those feelings away because emotional suppression is what I do well for short periods of time. I was the kid disassociating at school all alone. I think quality relationships is what I crave, the superficial relationships tire me. The catch here is that you can’t develop a quality relationship without the initial small talk. I also prefer small groups and one on one, it’s less stimulating

Hi @creative_writer

I seriously enjoyed the chat.

You have had a great response.

Why do you feel you cannot socialise?

You are excellent on this forum.

I am confused.

I hope you are not trying to be someone you are not. Your values and respect seem excellent. Wisdom not to overspeak.

Pat yourself on the back!

Sometimes l like to hide in a big group. I listen to the chit chat. Rarely engage. They are happy because they love talking about themselves. I am happy because l say little if anything.

I see you and l are comfortable in the environment that suits us.

Hi @creative_writer

Hmmm. I find the "right small group" more stimulating.

I agree with what you write.

What are you interests?

I collect things. I fix them. Now l sell them at.the markets.

I help my friend maintain.yard etc one hour away. They dont help me. So be it. I enjoy it.

I do watch a fair bit of tv in the background.

At the churches l was one of the camera operators.

What do you enjoy?

What works?

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, I find social situations overwhelming and anxiety provoking. I am a better writer than a speaker, I stumble over my words. Social anxiety along with sensory overload makes socialising challenging.

I am thinking of doing more writing, uni starts in a few days and since I’m not motivated to study, I might as well do something. I’ve been meaning to go back to fiction writing, I’ve been doing exclusively poetry for some time. Depression sort of dampened any enjoyment I got from life and made me incredibly unmotivated, I hardly got through last semester. Now that depression has eased, I need to get my life back together, might have to start piece by piece.

What kind of stuff do you watch on TV?

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

Hi @creative_writer

I have never spoken to you, but l must say, if you could speak as.well as you write you could be a lecturer, teacher, library story teller, anything.

I am only stepping out again and trying to be more social.

The annoying part is when i touch on what l went through, all the opinions come out and l go back to the peace solitude gives me. Why did l say anything?

Writing is your forte.

A friend was in a writing course.

Sensory overload. I had to tune out from the noise. Played good music or think of good things. It takes so much mindfulness to ignore " the noise" around us. Bad people, crazy drivers, abuse.

TV. Very broad. No violence. No law shows except Judge Judy. Seinfeld. Come dine with me. Masterchef because all are nice to each other.

I avoid like My Kitchen Rules because there are too many nasty people. I do not like nasty people.

Like the volunteer at your hospital. Whatever faith she is, she is nasty.

I have told you more about me than l have told anyone in a long time.

I haveca friend who is a retired police man. I enjoy my one on one with him. I have a big dislike to the Courts decisions. Bad people continue bad behaviour

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, my intention right now is to go into mental health social work. I think I would like to work one on one with individuals, see them grow over a period of time. This is going to sound like a crazy hobby, but I actually do enjoy trying to read and understand people. Human behaviour is so fascinating. I also can get obsessed with understanding fictional characters.

I can’t handle a lot of loud music either, too much fast paced angry music can agitate me further. I need my peace and quiet at times, especially after a long day out.

I am actually squirmish, but I’ve learnt to tolerate some violence on TV, but violence isn’t something I could watch too much of.

I think sometimes it’s easier to reveal stuff about yourself in an anonymous and safe place. I think that’s why I find the forums so helpful. There have been times where I felt as though I said too much and panicked, and I’ve said a lot of pretty heavy stuff on here before, it’s hard…I think it’s easier to say more over text

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@creative_writer

Mental health social work sounds like you.

I am on again off again Disability Support worker. Under Ndis you are more like an uber driver. So lost interest.

You refer your interests as crazy. You think sky diving, mountaineering etc is not crazy.

Behind each fictional character is a brainy writer. So l can see your interest. The writers of Bluey are clever.

I also like Penn and Teller Fool us.

Even on anonymous forums you have to be a bit careful. Or l should say respectful.

I feel you feel you need to empty out on all things. Keep some in. Take your time.

I hope the forum helps your MH

Re: “I don’t need people” state of mind

@Former-Member, I hope you find something you are passionate about and interested in. I have no experience with disability work, so I can't comment.

I guess what's considered crazy is subjective. i guess it's only natural for those interested in mental health to be driven to understand human behaviour. I feel like my studies would add substance to any fictional character that I do create.

It is true we need to be careful, I have had moments when a few of my posts had to be altered because I said too much, it no longer happens though. I have been triggered on the forums before too, but I think I was not in a good place then and should have been selective with what I was reading on the forums
