Socialising for Beginners

Socialising for Beginners

Thanks for the encouragement @Jynx
I put it in the Looking After Ourselves section as I believe the forums social spaces do a good job, of allowing the online community to get together in various social ways. I am more interested in working out or working through real life socialising experiences. Where we do not have the protections offered by anonymous online interactions.
Socialising for grown ups who have been isolated and are trying to re-enter general community groups or just trying to meet people is no easy feat. Its more difficult than for children and puppies as we usually have a lot more baggage, whatever that may mean.
From the online dictionary for a start:
verb: socialise
1.
participate in social activities; mix socially with others.
"guests can socialize in a real holiday atmosphere"
2.
make (someone) behave in a way that is acceptable to their society.
"newcomers are socialized into orthodox ways"
Similar words:
interact
converse
be sociable
mix
mingle
get together
meet
Seems to require more than simple social skills training.
I started one therapeutic relationship with that as my main goal. I knew I had limits and was willing to learn, but she was not a great a teacher and eventually admitted it was not her strength. I have accepted that I am relatively introverted and there are advantages and safety with that, but also the yearning for human connection persists within me. So I do not really want to keep myself to myself. This forum has been a wonderful opportunity for me to try different things and meet people.

Just tagging a few who I feel may be interested, but this discussion is open ...

Re: Socialising for Beginners

obstreperous, I had to get the book keeper to look that up before I could say . . . Hi @Appleblossom , Its going on the fridge.

Glad you are mixing it, and doing it on your own terms. I can see egg cartons going up on your sons walls. Empowering people, I'm sure in your hands, your son is going to make a difference in this evolving world. Thankfully I only have a few breeders but I do hand milk the goats. I'm always yelling out. don't strip the milk, role your palm. Some people can get, and some can't. Its one of the many tasks that woman do way better than the blokes.

I might just pass as the doorman at your club. theres no way there ever gonna let me in there though. Chuckle. Stay safe . and have fun Appleblossom. tonys m b 1

Re: Socialising for Beginners

Did not remember dreams last night @tonys Thats fine. Hope you are doing alright.

Mainly copy paste from tabby's thread.

Yep have been a Busy Busy Bee in last 5 months ... @TAB Its been over a year since I ate out with my son ...

Things will settle down now, just a lunch at Easter with old girlfriend. Main deal at moment is bloomin plumbing .... waiting waiting ...

Cos my "job" is supposed to be about managing music and people, aka, social stuff, I have decided to be thorough and analyse it from variety of angles. Hence 3 or 4 memberships ( forgot my church tithe ... I have made it an odd amount to get up the treasurer's nose. Christianity should not equal petty tyrants running little empires).

Means I do not have time to feel suicidal. I was pretty close to going for last 5-7 years, but knew I could not, cos of son. Am used to finding value and do not believe you always get you pay for, sometimes we get ripped off, sometimes its a good deal. I know how rich people think too. Basically I am agin one liners...

I guess I am used to working hard and now am playing hard. Maybe I will get more paid work out of it, when I get more deft at the social management, and differentiating, managing social stuff from FRIENDSHIP.
