Want to forget TW

Want to forget TW

Sometimes we can be enjoying the simplest and nicest of things and we are reminded of our past. For me that came yesterday. I was lucky enough to be attending a concert - something on it's own that would have been tricky for me in the past but it was a Christmas present and I was actually looking forward to it. It was a beautiful day and we had found a great position to set up for the day and evening. About half way through the day I had someone tap me on the shoulder - it was actually a nice surprise as it was someone I knew but had not seen in a few years. I knew his Mum - she both taught me and also was in the same sporting club many years later, and I taught his daughter. His Mum passed away a several years ago and we stayed in contact for a while afterwards. This is a person I actually like - he has been through some tough times and I think we connected on that level as well previously.

The conversation was lovely and we were all laughing together (in such a lovely way that I have not laughed for a long time) then out of the blue he brought up someone I absolutely detest. I don't know where it came from as this person is older than both of us but I suppose I should not be surprised as we all grew up in similar circles. He tried to continue the conversation but I could not help but say just how I felt about this person and could we change the subject. My sister was also there and to begin with she was going to have a go at me for being so direct but I think she then cottoned on to just how uncomfortable I was feeling and maybe knew why. This person was not one of those that had abused me for so long as a child but he was no doubt aware of it as he made my life just as impossible when he was around. I was just a kid but that did not stop the comments and implications directed towards me. I was just as scared of this person as the boys involved.

I had just the previous day spoke to my psych about leaving things in the past and then something like this happens. We had talked about what I do when triggered but this was an exception circumstance. I cannot generally hide the pain when it is so bad - I felt so sick at the time. I know my sister picked up on it but my old acquaintance was drinking a bit so really did not ...I am actually grateful for that.

Last night was a really hard night once I got home. To make it worse - I have been sick today and had to come home even before the day started at work - so there have been a lot of tears, a lot of sleeping and a lot of thoughts swimming around. I am having tomorrow off as well - whether I am well enough to be there or not physically, I know I am mentally not. This has been a massive hit and I can feel the effects both physically and mentally. I know it will pass in time but I feel that so much has been happening over the last year or so that my cup is empty.

From here I am unsure 'where to next'. I can feel the world closing in around me - yesterday is probably a culmination of so different emotions, so much grief, so much loss and so much to keep wading through. The beginning of this was 2 weeks ago when I saw a new pdoc and had to go through so much in such a small space of time. I felt okay in the moment doing so but it is always afterwards that it hits. My psych acknowledged this and just how hard it would have been ...I went straight back to work after the pdoc appointment and my psych has no idea how I had gotten the strength to do so - I don't either because it was incredibly hard ...but like most things - I push it away and try not to deal with it ...the result is I am where I am now - triggered massively by what happened yesterday, finding my head all over the place and wondering how I am going to find that place I was once at. ...it will be okay but a little extra support right now would help.

Hi @Zoe7,

How are you feeling today? I hope the medication is working well and you are starting to feel a bit more on top of things. I hope you can get a good rest and take things easy.

Re: Want to forget TW

Good morning @Zoe7 - it's Monday and I have rung my agency about getting out of My Aged Care - and I have to wait for another phone call - at least I made the point I don't want any more services and I won't pay for anything else. It's a confusing place.

The world is not a "one size fits all" place - nor the classroom - not a website - nor an agency. MSN closed their groups a long time ago - people could just set themselves up as "owners" and "moderators" but there was no control. Things could get nasty - and did. Still - moderation can't stop that. People are people and need different things. I love what you wrote - you put it so much better than I did.

You are right there in the classroom and see it - and you love your job and your kids - it shows - I wish I could be there with you sometimes. Little kids are developing their own personalities and need all of that understanding. When I started school back in the 1940s there was none of that. It was sit down and learn - some kids were challenged in the ways you listed - I wasn't but challenged - yes - I learned quickly and was bored out of my brains at times. I found relief toward the end of Grade 2 when a male teacher realised bright kids need stimulation and he gave it - I never looked back - I think I was lucky.

There is hostility - when I took time out I would come in as a guest and read what I wrote in my early years - I have come a long way - some people drop right out - and I had forgotten them. We have no idea what happened - I hope they just didn't need this anymore.

This hypertext keeps checking my grammar and I could ignore it - I want to keep my sentences clear and my spelling correct. Perhaps the hypertext could check some of the bad language - I try and ignore it - I don't like it though.

Take things easy today - all the best

Hi @FloatingFeather 💖 I am feeling so much better today but my breathing is still not great so whilst I would like to go back to work tomorrow I think it is best to have one more day. I am still testing positive although the line is getting fainter 👍 The anti-virals and ABs have certainly helped. I am going to try to do a little housework today and see how I go with energy levels but not push it. Plenty of fur baby cuddle time happening which of course you know I loooove. How are you and your babies?

@Owlunar Like you, I don't like the bad language and feel it should be picked up too, but choose not to read nor respond in those instances.

I hope you can sort out your Aged Care issues. It is often harder for us to get out of things than it is to get into them. If you no longer require their services then it should be easy but it seems nothing is so simple and straightforward these days 😔

I am glad you had a teacher that could see what you needed and could help. I was in the era of streaming so we were grouped into classes according to our IQ (another way of grouping/classing students I have never agreed with). It did mean our programs were collectively tailored to the class but not to the individual. I don't believe at all that IQ allows for individual needs ...someone can have a high IQ but no social skills for example and therefore or the reverse and neither allow for individual strengths nor needs. It is just another 'test' to justify grouping people together. The day we see every individual as just that and celebrate them as who they are not what box we can place them in, will be the day we can truly celebrate inclusion of all.

Re: Want to forget TW

I am really pleased to read that you are feeling so much better @Zoe7 - that is great news 💖!

I understand your keenness to go back to work but I agree with you, one day more to rest up and take it easy is probably a good idea. Plus (as you said) more time for fur baby cuddles which I think is a win-win for both you and your gorgeous fur babies!

My fur babies are well thanks but they do mope around a bit until my 11 year-old gets home from school - I'm the favourite when it comes to food but he's the favourite when it comes to playtime!

Take care, keep resting up and enjoy those fur baby cuddles 🙂.

Slept all afternoon @FloatingFeather Laid down to snuggle with Tobes and woke up over 3 hours later lol Still feeling really tired though so definitely need another day.

I had to giggle at your fur babies moping around. My babies sleep all day until I get home and then crazy time begins. Clover cannot wait to get outside and Toby jumps all over me until he wears himself out. Clover won't even come in for her dinner until she has chased some bugs and lizards first. Toby sits at my feet or at his bowl though if it is dinner time.

You sound like your fur babies have it sorted - Mumma feeds us, sibling plays with us LOL

Re: Want to forget TW

Sounds like a good sleep is just what you needed @Zoe7. I really do think sometime sleep can be the best medicine.

I guess I'm the boring one for my fur babies lol. You're right they have it sorted - one person for feeding and one for playing. They definitely know not to go to my son for food - I don't think he even knows where their food is!

I can imagine your fur babies probably listen out to hear you come home at the end of the day - it sounds like a celebration when you get home lol!

Hutch sounds like Clover - happy to go outside, look for bugs etc. As for Marvin, he sounds more like Toby either at my feet or never too far from his food bowl!

Re: Want to forget TW

They certainly do have their own little personalities @FloatingFeather Tobes has been my shadow since the day I got him and yes that moment I first get home is like the sun shining brightly with his welcome. It is by far the happiest part of my day - the unbridled joy on his face is only surpassed by my own. He jumps up and down the hallway on his back legs until I pick him up lol Clover does come for a quick cuddle then outside she goes. She has been laying on her back in the hallway of a morning as I am leaving for work for a while now wanting tummy rubs then off to her own bed for the day.

It sounds just like any 11 yr old boy - if it isn't fun or right in front of them then they have no idea lol

Re: Want to forget TW

I love how you describe your fur babies personalities @Zoe7 . How good does it feel that two little fur babies think the world of their person. Even when the day is really crap they can still lift our spirits. I would be lost without my pugs. We have wooden floors so when they hear someone coming home you can hear their nails taping away excitedly rushing to the door!

Yep, you've nailed my son to a tee - if it isn't fun or in his face it isn't happening lol.

I'm floating off for the evening. I hope you have a really nice evening and get a good rest my friend.

Re: Want to forget TW

Yeah we have floor boards also so I often hear Tobes trying to run but ice skating instead. The amount of times he has chased Clover up the hallway and skidded into the front door I could not count - but it is hilarious ...and he is never hurt. I hope you have a great evening @FloatingFeather Love to you, your fur family and hoomans 💖

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi @Zoe7 @FloatingFeather

I feel envious reading about your fur-babies - how I would love to have another cat! I really do know it would be too much for me - also - if I run out of medication I would need to be in hospital for a short while - no time to take the cat to the cattery - my old Companion Cat was a wonderful friend and was pretty healthy - sometimes I am tempted - alas - not happening though.

Teaching and teachers have changed a lot since I was in primary school. At first there were only unmarried female teachers and some of them were middle aged and past kids I think. It was pretty dry for a bright child and I am sure I was not alone. When I was admired for my perspicacity by male teachers I flourished. I don't blame the ladies - they were probably not paid enough and if they got married they had to leave - if they got pregnant - heaven forbid - what on earth did the authorities think the children would learn - my mother was pregnant when I was in the infant school. I actually was pretty unaware of what the coming baby was about - or where it was - but I was exposed to a pregnant female. I am still astounded. I don't blame those women - it was the way it was at the time and still wrong - regardless.

My father, grandparents and uncles all helped me - asking and answering questions - my private education was vast in its breadth - including biology, astronomy, WW1, how to travel around Melbourne on trains and trams alone pretty young. No one taught me how to ride my mother's bike or swim - I just learned. Enough bragging - academically my youth was entertaining, and I am satisfied with myself as I went on self-educating - not everyone has that path available.

So - what was the rest of the post about? - Ah yes - Covid Zoe - take it easy if your breathing is still impaired - I am sure you will - this is my mother-figure coming out - my daughter seems to be still sulking - I have to nurture someone - that's you right now.

Actually - I do need domestic help - My Aged Care is gouging me - it doesn't matter how vast or paltry my services are that's what the Government says I have to contribute. There's no argument - I have no choice. It has taken me months to sort this shamble out - I have figured it out though - I get different answers from everyone because no one knows what's going on - and until I found out where to make the right phone call I was confused because it made no sense to me - now it does - I will pay less if I pay someone privately for the basics I can't manage. My medical expenses are very high - I can't get the treatment in the public system - I did speak to my pain specialist about this and I do need to pay private insurance - and my GP was sympathetic - he actually bulk-billed me for my last visit and he rarely bulk-bills. It has been such a puzzle I have let it go for a while but now and again when I am feeling able - I get back into it - and - I did not get a phone call from my Case Worker. Enough. I don't share everything that troubles me - this one is a bit heavy though.

I am getting picky about who I respond to now. I have enough on my own plate - and there are people here who are genuinely responsive - I get a lot out of writing for some people.

I hope you have a good day tomorrow Zoe - I was too tired to use the computer much today - I slept watching TV twice - I missed The Chase Australia - botheration - I enjoy that and have a grin on my face the whole time and enjoy yelling answers at the TV.

See you soon and all the best
