Want to forget TW

Want to forget TW

Sometimes we can be enjoying the simplest and nicest of things and we are reminded of our past. For me that came yesterday. I was lucky enough to be attending a concert - something on it's own that would have been tricky for me in the past but it was a Christmas present and I was actually looking forward to it. It was a beautiful day and we had found a great position to set up for the day and evening. About half way through the day I had someone tap me on the shoulder - it was actually a nice surprise as it was someone I knew but had not seen in a few years. I knew his Mum - she both taught me and also was in the same sporting club many years later, and I taught his daughter. His Mum passed away a several years ago and we stayed in contact for a while afterwards. This is a person I actually like - he has been through some tough times and I think we connected on that level as well previously.

The conversation was lovely and we were all laughing together (in such a lovely way that I have not laughed for a long time) then out of the blue he brought up someone I absolutely detest. I don't know where it came from as this person is older than both of us but I suppose I should not be surprised as we all grew up in similar circles. He tried to continue the conversation but I could not help but say just how I felt about this person and could we change the subject. My sister was also there and to begin with she was going to have a go at me for being so direct but I think she then cottoned on to just how uncomfortable I was feeling and maybe knew why. This person was not one of those that had abused me for so long as a child but he was no doubt aware of it as he made my life just as impossible when he was around. I was just a kid but that did not stop the comments and implications directed towards me. I was just as scared of this person as the boys involved.

I had just the previous day spoke to my psych about leaving things in the past and then something like this happens. We had talked about what I do when triggered but this was an exception circumstance. I cannot generally hide the pain when it is so bad - I felt so sick at the time. I know my sister picked up on it but my old acquaintance was drinking a bit so really did not ...I am actually grateful for that.

Last night was a really hard night once I got home. To make it worse - I have been sick today and had to come home even before the day started at work - so there have been a lot of tears, a lot of sleeping and a lot of thoughts swimming around. I am having tomorrow off as well - whether I am well enough to be there or not physically, I know I am mentally not. This has been a massive hit and I can feel the effects both physically and mentally. I know it will pass in time but I feel that so much has been happening over the last year or so that my cup is empty.

From here I am unsure 'where to next'. I can feel the world closing in around me - yesterday is probably a culmination of so different emotions, so much grief, so much loss and so much to keep wading through. The beginning of this was 2 weeks ago when I saw a new pdoc and had to go through so much in such a small space of time. I felt okay in the moment doing so but it is always afterwards that it hits. My psych acknowledged this and just how hard it would have been ...I went straight back to work after the pdoc appointment and my psych has no idea how I had gotten the strength to do so - I don't either because it was incredibly hard ...but like most things - I push it away and try not to deal with it ...the result is I am where I am now - triggered massively by what happened yesterday, finding my head all over the place and wondering how I am going to find that place I was once at. ...it will be okay but a little extra support right now would help.

Struggled yesterday but a better day today. My kids are just gorgeous and were so happy to have me back - it is absolutely beyond words what joy they bring me. Had a really nice comment from one of my Mum's via my principal today. This Mum has bipolar and yesterday was the first time I have been able to catch her to talk. She can barely get her son to school but is trying so hard ...and he is just a joy to have in the class. I think now we have chatted she feels so much less pressure as I told her to get him there whatever time she can - I don't care if it is just for an hour in the afternoon. Hopefully that will take some pressure off and hopefully she now knows she is supported by the school as well.

Also had a better night last night - no nightmares for the first time in weeks so hoping that is a good sign things are looking up again. Still feeling exhausted but have worked since I got home to try to catch up ...getting there 👍 Looking forward to the weekend to get some more rest and regain some strength and energy. I have nothing that needs doing or nowhere to be this weekend so more catching up on work, plenty of rest and a lot of fur baby cuddles.

@utopia Great to see you Hon 💖

Well done on your return to work my friend. I had a good visit with my pdoc this morning and I’m feeling much more confident tonight.

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi @Zoe7,

It is really nice to read you are feeling a little better. Your kids sound gorgeous and I would imagine their energy may be a little contagious. I really love how you spoke to the mum that has bipolar. I am sure your kind words helped her a lot. A family member has bipolar so I know somewhat the rollercoaster it can be so I'm sure you understanding and kindness will be received with gratitude by your student's mum.

I was really touched to be included in your post where you talked about how the support from the community helped you - I'm so glad that we were able to hold a bit of space for you when you needed it. Anytime you need support just let us know. I know you are a great support to others on the forums too.

I'm glad you are sleeping a bit better too. Sounds like you have the perfect weekend ahead - no plans much and lots of rest and relaxing. I could do with one of those myself lol!

Enjoy your weekend - I hope it is calm, relaxing and filled with lots of fur baby cuddles.

Big hugs,

FloatingFeather

Re: Want to forget TW

One of those 'down' days after another pretty bad night @FloatingFeather @NatureLover @Eve7 Work was okay but I am getting a bit tired of the ongoing conflict between my two next door neighbour teachers. I am friends with one of them but it is all she can talk about lately and I am quite honestly over it. I have encouraged her to talk to the principal and to request a meeting between all 3 of them so I really hope she does. Nothing will change if it continues as it is ...and I don't want to be stuck in the middle. My friend only works one day a week but it is becoming draining listening to her be so negative all the time. She is absolutely valid in what she is saying but the situation will not change unless she talks to the person that needs to know everything (the Principal).

I also do not have the energy for it all. I have been struggling myself and trying to get on top of work again ...but all my spare time today has been spent listening to her. I finally packed everything up to bring home - just so I could get away. Thank goodness for my kids and fur babies - plenty of fun with the kids today and fur baby cuddles tonight.

@Zoe7 How did you sleep last night, now that your work week is over? Sorry to hear about the down day and the bad sleep on Thursday night 😞 I really hope this weekend is a healing weekend - where you can do what you want and need. 💚

Re: Want to forget TW

Actually fell asleep on the couch and slept through most of the night @NatureLover 👍

Feeling much better this morning as a result. Going to get all the housework out of the way early before it gets hot later. It is already very warm so having an inside day - which will be good for getting work done. I might even make a trip to the beach later today with Tobes - he needs a bath anyway so can do that after we return (as he is likely to become a sand monster lol).

Re: Want to forget TW

Sorry about your day yesterday @Zoe7 but remember “that was yesterday and now yesterday’s gone” and you can make new memories today.

The beach sounds like a great idea for you and Tobes.

I’m going with gs2 to watch him run a race this afternoon but doing Uni work this morning.

Lots of love 💕
