Want to forget TW

Want to forget TW

Sometimes we can be enjoying the simplest and nicest of things and we are reminded of our past. For me that came yesterday. I was lucky enough to be attending a concert - something on it's own that would have been tricky for me in the past but it was a Christmas present and I was actually looking forward to it. It was a beautiful day and we had found a great position to set up for the day and evening. About half way through the day I had someone tap me on the shoulder - it was actually a nice surprise as it was someone I knew but had not seen in a few years. I knew his Mum - she both taught me and also was in the same sporting club many years later, and I taught his daughter. His Mum passed away a several years ago and we stayed in contact for a while afterwards. This is a person I actually like - he has been through some tough times and I think we connected on that level as well previously.

The conversation was lovely and we were all laughing together (in such a lovely way that I have not laughed for a long time) then out of the blue he brought up someone I absolutely detest. I don't know where it came from as this person is older than both of us but I suppose I should not be surprised as we all grew up in similar circles. He tried to continue the conversation but I could not help but say just how I felt about this person and could we change the subject. My sister was also there and to begin with she was going to have a go at me for being so direct but I think she then cottoned on to just how uncomfortable I was feeling and maybe knew why. This person was not one of those that had abused me for so long as a child but he was no doubt aware of it as he made my life just as impossible when he was around. I was just a kid but that did not stop the comments and implications directed towards me. I was just as scared of this person as the boys involved.

I had just the previous day spoke to my psych about leaving things in the past and then something like this happens. We had talked about what I do when triggered but this was an exception circumstance. I cannot generally hide the pain when it is so bad - I felt so sick at the time. I know my sister picked up on it but my old acquaintance was drinking a bit so really did not ...I am actually grateful for that.

Last night was a really hard night once I got home. To make it worse - I have been sick today and had to come home even before the day started at work - so there have been a lot of tears, a lot of sleeping and a lot of thoughts swimming around. I am having tomorrow off as well - whether I am well enough to be there or not physically, I know I am mentally not. This has been a massive hit and I can feel the effects both physically and mentally. I know it will pass in time but I feel that so much has been happening over the last year or so that my cup is empty.

From here I am unsure 'where to next'. I can feel the world closing in around me - yesterday is probably a culmination of so different emotions, so much grief, so much loss and so much to keep wading through. The beginning of this was 2 weeks ago when I saw a new pdoc and had to go through so much in such a small space of time. I felt okay in the moment doing so but it is always afterwards that it hits. My psych acknowledged this and just how hard it would have been ...I went straight back to work after the pdoc appointment and my psych has no idea how I had gotten the strength to do so - I don't either because it was incredibly hard ...but like most things - I push it away and try not to deal with it ...the result is I am where I am now - triggered massively by what happened yesterday, finding my head all over the place and wondering how I am going to find that place I was once at. ...it will be okay but a little extra support right now would help.

Re: Want to forget TW

@Owlunar I know that management is aware and there are things going on behind the scenes to work through how to deal with those kind of posts. It is of course a difficult one as we do not want to discourage people reaching out but there also has to be a line to keep the whole community safe. I would say ...watch this space as there are things coming up that you would be an asset to be involved in.

Had a very long bubble bath - just the tonic today. It really helped relieve a little of my back pain ...and I feel a fresh new Zoe lol Toby laid on the bath mat the whole time apart from the couple of times he poked his nose over the bath to make sure I was still there haha Now I have both the fur babies on the couch with me 🐶😺💕

Just to be clear Hon - NEVER a wilting lily in my eyes 💖 I know you may sometimes feel like that dealing with everything you have to deal with but that takes so much strength in and of itself so I both admire and love you for all that ...and of course being my Mumma Bear is a bonus 💖

I would love nothing better for you than coming to Hobart again and making that trip to Cradle Mountain ...and just maybe one day we would run into each other 😘

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi @Eve7

Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad I could help - keep in touch please -

@Zoe7

Thanks for the info on the posts that can be disturbing - how that can be managed I can't imagine. Yes - we want to be inclusive - yet how many people are unnerved by certain posts and just go away without comment? That's an important question and I don't know the answer. Perhaps no one does.

That hypertext could be more useful - I am not that techie-smart - I can't add anything helpful - still - I was annoyed that I couldn't post a short, harmless word when there are things I have to google. I am sure the parameters are hard to sort out. I will watch this space - and I am mentally drafting an email.

A bubble bath would be wonderful - I am not sure I could get out of the bath if I got into it. And Toby watches you - I love that. My son's cat used to sit on the side of the bath whenever I was in it - batting at the water sometimes then shaking her paws. I've had lots of cats but only this one shared the bathroom with me.

Perhaps I am not a wilting lily - I am thinking of a better flower - battered snapdragon perhaps - or swiped red-hot-poker - how about - tenacious weather-beaten ivy? That last one works.

My Chicken Kiev is just about ready - no - I did not prepare it from scratch - it was frozen - everything I do around here is along the path of least resistance.

I hope to get back this evening - meanwhile your Mumma Bear is signing off.

Owlunar

Wow Zoe - I went and had dinner and thought I had posted this - and it had timed out - luckily it auto-saved - so that's good.

It's an appalling night here - strong wind and heavy rain - I went to bed to read for a while - then got up and thought I would finish this - I am hoping the weather isn't so bad in Hobart - I know you don't like the wind - I do actually - not the east wind though - this rarely blows in Melbourne - when it does it comes in a continuous powerful blast that scours trash and leaved into corners and this makes me feel really uneasy. The strange thing is when I am in Lakes Entrance the east wind blows there a lot and it feels quite different.

And how great it would be if we did meet in Hobart - I will have to get a sweater with an owl on it. Also - I thought - last year we might have been on the same plane - that's possible.

I hope you get a good sleep - gentle thoughts on the way from -

Re: Want to forget TW

Hey @Owlunar I’ll keep in touch when I can. I’ve been a bit put off by some of the posts I see lately too so have been trying to go a bit more low key.

I spent hours at the hospital today trying to sort an issue out for someone so I’m just trying to unwind now with Bob the cat but hoping to be in bed before the Easter bunny comes.

Bobcat is trying to sleep but a teenager is waving some string around him so the cat has jumped up again.

I’d better go to bed before I start talking nonsense.

Good night lovely 😊

Re: Want to forget TW

That's fine @Eve7

A bit of nonsense might be fine right now - I hope Bobcat settles down - there are no teenagers around my place and no cat now - I miss the cat.

Tag me whenever you feel up to it. I know you are sensitive - I had a different username here - there was some trouble on-line and a lot of people - including you - were upset.

I have been through a very dark time in the past - a long time in the past - so I really get it when people are triggered. I have deeply buried the memories that are so serious - I know they are there - I just don't visit them. It would be my wish that eventually other people could find the acceptance needed to feel okay to do that - I mean - I know what I have hidden - I just don't talk about it or even think about it anymore. It can take a while to find such a safe place.

I would like to wish you a Happy Easter - I hope you do - or at least it's as good as it can be.

I hope you have a peaceful night.

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi @Owlunar I think an email would be good. The more information management can receive about issues that affect us as a community, the better. The hypertext thing annoys me too. There are so many words accepted and some seemingly harmless ones rejected because they could be sensitive to some yet others are accepted that I (and no doubt others) find offensive. There has to be a little give and take but there also needs to be a line.

As for some of those posts - there needs to be more careful and thorough training for our moderators and PSWs so they not only know the guidelines but enact them the same across the board. Consistency is something I have been very vocal in asking for - and that means no matter who the poster is and what we do or do not know about them. I think sometimes things get through when it involves longer term members yet newer members are pulled up quickly - how much does that affect those members and their engagement in the forums ...especially if they have seen similar from other members not being pulled up? Here, again, there has to be a very clear line drawn - we are not a crisis service nor a counselling service - it is a peer to peer forum and it lands on the hands of all members to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Tenacious, weather beaten ivy ...I love that. I have ivy growing on my fence in the back yard that I have carefully trimmed and shaped to run along the whole fence - so every time I tend to that I will be thinking of you and continue to shape it into the masterpiece that I see you as 💖

We probably were not on the same plane Hon - I remember when you travelled and my trip for the funeral was much later in the year - but the idea is nice. Yes get an owl sweater lol I had a kid in my class last year that loved owls also - she still visits me most mornings (as do half of my class from last year). The mornings are quite chaotic in our classroom as they also bring their friends ...so there are often 30 plus students in the same room ...but I would not have it any other way. I love that they still visit and feel comfortable to come in and play ...and of course the hugs I get are pretty special too.

Off to watch some meaningless tv and work on my fairy treehouse. I hope you have had a good day and the pain is under control tonight.

Catch you later Mumma Bear 💖

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi @Zoe7

Great message - thanks - I needed that tonight - I am about to write something on my thread soon - I am framing my thoughts.

And as many people who are able need to have their say about some of the posts - I usually read the new threads - some of them I just don't understand - then there are the other ones we talked about. And the hypertext - yes - that is important too.

I love hearing about your kids - and your fish - and the big one eating the little ones - I thought about that last night - catfish are predators - and they get huge in rivers - maybe their size is controlled by the size of their environment.

There are some things I need to buy - so I will look around for a sweater with an owl on it. I need to get a folding table so I can mount my telescope at a convenient height - I don't have a good horizon here - lots of bushes and units - and of course - we have light pollution.

My independence is increasing since my last transcutaneous session - it's been a rotten day in Melbourne today - cold and windy mostly and very gloomy. I dozed watching recorded TV - I watched - or tried to watch Evan Almighty - I fell asleep - with the idea that God wouldn't be that cruel - I guess that was one I deleted without seeing it all and that's okay.

The pain has been easier lately - longer spells between spikes - this is good. And I have ivy growing over the fence from my neighbour's place - this is a duplex - and my gardener strips it back every months and it surely is tenacious.

So this is your Mumma Bear

The Tenacious Weather-Beaten Ivy

Saying - I have to write on my thread before I go to bed

Sending warm thoughts

Re: Want to forget TW

The catfish and neon tetras happily co-exist @Owlunar Just haven't found the fish that will do the same with both yet. Both the species I have added should have been okay but will continue to look into what to introduce next.

I had an owl jumper years ago - I knitted it myself. It was very cute but has disappeared somewhere over the years. I probably sent it to the Salvos by mistake. I did take a bag years ago of winter things I had stored over the Summer. There was a vest my Nan had crocheted in it and that is one I still feel very upset about. By the time I realised what I had done it was too late to go back and try to retrieve it.

There certainly is a big difference between your city and mine. It is so clear here (as you would know) that the sky is very visible and accessible with a telescope. I might need to borrow my Dad's for a bit so I can do some star gazing myself.

A terrible day coming up here too today - cold and wet so far but I am planning on an inside day anyway so have turned up the heat pump and once Clover is back inside I will close the door to keep the heat in.

I am so glad your last treatment has helped. Pain is something we both know well and it becomes so restrictive. I hope you continue to have that reduction in pain Hon - it is amazing what we have to forego when the pain is so high.

I wrote on the other thread replying to your post - can't believe how people think it is okay to both publish something without permission and also get it so wrong. Good luck with getting it rectified Mumma Bear 💖

Re: Want to forget TW

Hi again @Zoe7

Aw - you lost your owl-jumper and worse - the vest your nan crocheted for you - that is super-tragic - it would have been precious to you - so much a keepsake - I am sorry to hear that.

My gran used to crochet Afghans - rugs with different colours pattern all crocheted together with a soft fabric sewn on the back. We had a few of them and there was one hand-knitted in all different colours and it was obviously never finished. I asked her about it once - I was told - "Well - I was knitting these out of old wool and sending them off to people who sent things to the soldiers in the war. The war ended before I finished this one."

Anyway - the cannibalistic fish - I dunno what to do about that - my daughter had and has fish - when she was a child they were in cold water and often died. There were a few funerals of course - then we tired of that. The fish she has now are tropical and rather large - beautiful fish - all different colours and shiny. I have thought about fish - but no - I did have some hermit crabs for a while - they were interesting.

Light pollution - that's a problem and it has become worse in the twenty years I have lived here. Then I could go out into my courtyard at the back where there were no security lights and see right up into the milky way - maybe I will have been luck with the telescope when I get the right table - it would be easier if I could use both hands equally - still - I am happy to have a telescope - with practice it might work for me.

It has been a bleak Easter - we recorded the coldest Easter Sunday for 80 years - a little bit before my time. I do remember a wet Easter when I was a teenager - that was a somber event - my brother and I played games in his bedroom and drove our mother crackers playing the same records on our grammarphone - I was glad to go back to school thinking a 5 day break then had been totally wasted.

Boredom was not my problem this Easter - it was just plain gloomy.

The pain hasn't been too bad though - I did seem to nap a lot - a great way to pass the time on a wet extra long weekend

And tomorrow I will be following my email up with a phone call - and I am so thankful for your support

Re: Want to forget TW

I certainly feel the loss of the vest my Nan crocheted @Owlunar She was not the most loving Nan but that was something that she put a lot of time and effort into for me so it was very special. I learnt so much more about her after she died - she was certainly so much more than we saw when we visited and I wish I had seen that side of her. My Pop was not the easiest of people to live with (that we already knew) but we only visited a couple of times a year as they lived at the other end of the state ...and those times we all felt we were walking on eggshells. I do wish I had know her better but we cannot change the past.

The other fish only eat the fish when they have died so more investigation needed for me. Maybe some bigger fish needed.

I hope you find the right table and can get back into using your telescope. I am very lucky here to have such clear air and clear skies.

Good luck with you phone call today - I hope you get some changes happening as a result.
