Something’s not right

Severe depression

Severe depression

Hello, I'm new and I'm not in a good way. I have had a life of abuse and neglect and I'm now 50. I have had enough of medication and the fat pharma lies. I have no interest in life and the only 1 person that keeps me going is my beautiful daughter. Living is a misery and all joy has gone. I can't eat have no energy but somehow force myself to keep going otherwise I will be put on a mental health order and last time had 26 ECT which has left terrible side effects, 4 months in the psych ward and significant weight gain from the drugs i was made to take. I have no friends and no support but I am getting a mental health care plan in the morning and I'm determined to get right. Does anybody else feel this way?@

Re: Severe depression

You made some good points there @Lioness72 - to med or not to med?

For me, I was in such a terrible state of anxiety and depression. Without meds, no way would I have been able to even attend therapy, let alone get something out of it. Also, at that time, I was hardly sleeping.

The meds gave me some stability somewhat. I then went through therapy (with meds), but gradually reduced. Currently, I take very minimal maintenance meds. I probably don't need them anymore, but I've chosen to stay on them because I'm doing so well and do not want to mess with the equilibrium.

So whether to med or not to med could be discussed with your team.

For me, the meds did have side effects, but I'm also mindful that I would not have been up to therapy if I wasn't sleeping or couldn't get out of the house. But that was my case.

You situation may be very different.

Hi Tyme, you also make good points. I have been on medication many a time. It was once described to me that you may buy a pair of shoes but the shoes can't walk by themselves .I know that med's and therapy go hand in hand. I have also not been good on the therapy side of things. I think I thought I didn't need it and that the meds were enough. I don't think I found the right therapist either. I'm now going to research this particular med but I think I am going to not take the mess but if there is no change in me by the 1st January then I will. So scared of the side effects.

Re: Severe depression

Hi @Lioness72 I am about to log off for the night...techno overload! I wanted to drop by & let you know I'm thinking of you & keeping up with your posts. I don't always get a chance to respond as I would like.

For me, when my mind was searching desperately for a nice thought - I would find solace in TV. Let my mind be distracted for an hour. Sad, happy shows - it didn't matter - it gave me a focus & maybe an outlet if I could relate to the character.

At desperate times, I have relied on writing. Putting my thoughts on paper, it didn't need to make sense, I only needed to get it out of my head & into the 'physical world.'

Not answers, coping strategies for me.

I am still taking my anti-depressants. I am not well enough to stop them yet. I don't know if I ever will be. I know for me, they give me a chance... That is how I feel.

You have to decide what is right for you.

I like that you are excited to start therapy on Monday. I think you badly want things to change. That is an amazing attitude❤️ I think I can tell, you are really hurting right now.

You are taking lots of positive steps. Please take a moment to acknowledge how strong you really are❤️

I hope things become easier for you very soon. xx

Re: Severe depression

Hi maddison, I have decided to start the meds.I do need that extra help at the moment. I am so scared of the weight gain as it is a weight that is not food induced and very hard to stop but I just need some help. I try every morning to see that this is a new day and try to look for positive. I just can't get there even though I know what to look for. I am just so down so I think that I best try the med. I want to get better desperately. Thank you for reaching out to me. I have no one else in the world literally that I can talk to as I am not burdening my beautiful girl with this.I try hard to fake it but she can tell that I'm not right. At least having covid and being unwell is a bit of a cover. I'm starting my med in the next hour. I will stay in touch. @maddison @tyme @Shaz51 @Eve7

Re: Severe depression

Good luck with the meds @Lioness72 I’ve put on weight too so I feel your pain.

My meds seem to help so hopefully I can sort the weight issue soon,

Do you have anything planned for today?

Re: Severe depression

Hi eve7, I have covid and I'm quite unwell so I'm just resting today.I just took my med and even though it could not have worked I feel a little better hoping that I will hopefully be feeling in the next couple of weeks if it works. I am petrified of the weight gain as I am at a good weight. I have a history of weight gain with most antidepressant and antipsychotic meds. At the moment all I want is my life back so it's weighing up the pros and cons, literally. Thanks for your support. I will keep you updated. Have a wonderful day. @Eve7

Re: Severe depression

Thank you Tyme.I also feel more depressed when sick, if that is possible at the moment but I just started my med for the first time so even that has helped just thinking that help is on the way hopefully. I am really worried about the weight gain as it happens every time I start with antidepressant and antipsychotic meds. But at the moment I just need to get better. Thank you for your support. I will stay in touch. Have a wonderful day.
