Severe depression

Severe depression

Hello, I'm new and I'm not in a good way. I have had a life of abuse and neglect and I'm now 50. I have had enough of medication and the fat pharma lies. I have no interest in life and the only 1 person that keeps me going is my beautiful daughter. Living is a misery and all joy has gone. I can't eat have no energy but somehow force myself to keep going otherwise I will be put on a mental health order and last time had 26 ECT which has left terrible side effects, 4 months in the psych ward and significant weight gain from the drugs i was made to take. I have no friends and no support but I am getting a mental health care plan in the morning and I'm determined to get right. Does anybody else feel this way?@

Hey @Lioness72 ,

I'm here. I hope that makes you feel less alone.

There was a time I was depressed with everything. Nothing satisfied me. I'm sorry to hear you have COVID again. Does it wear you down a lot?

Being sick often exacerbates my mental health.....argh....

Re: Severe depression

It’s not easy for me @Lioness72 but I try to it on my “big girl pants” and do what I have to do

I like gardening and exercise too but it’s a bit hot to do either activity today although I will make the effort soon to pull a few weeds.

  • That's also what I have been doing. I can't let myself sink because last time I ended up in the psych ward on a mental health order for 4 months and had 26 ects..that can never happen again so somehow I'm keeping going but it is so hard. And I just tested positive to covid for the 2nd time this year that isn't helpful. Just having people to talk to really helps @Eve7

Thank you maddison. I am determined to get myself right. It's so very hard to keep going but I can't go back to the psych ward again. What things do you find helpful?

Re: Severe depression

Sorry about the COVID @Lioness72 I had it a couple of weeks ago too but am over it now.

That’s hard to have such a long stint in hospital with all that ECT. I’ve been in that situation but it was a couple of years ago. I’m lucky to have a really helpful psychiatrist whom I can see weekly if need be except over the festive season.

Hi Tyme, yes I'm quite unwell but luckily I have a good naturopath and my beautiful girl is going to pick up some medicine for me. It's so nice to have some support from nice people. Are you having trouble with your mental health Tyme?

Re: Severe depression

I'm still on my MH journey. I personally believe recovery is lifelong @Lioness72 . Put it this way, I'm out of the darkest, hardest part of my MH journey. It certainly has been a difficult journey, but I do not regret even one bit of it. I feel I've grown as a person because of my mental health challenges. I definitely would not be here if i didn't experience the challenges I've had.

This is why I want to share with people the hope that is there. Even when things seem dark and lonely, there is light out there.

I've had my fair share of involuntary inpatient stays, treatment orders, self-harm, suicidal ideation, attempts, emergency services.... it's been a long tough ride.

But now, I know I've come out a much better person. I cannot begin to thank the people in the MH system who have supported me (and continue to do so) throughout my life.

I now have it in me to give back to my community - that's why I'm here. I have found that the more I 'give back', the more I receive. A highly rewarding experience!

Re: Severe depression

Hi Tyme, you have also been through a lot you are very fortunate to have and to have had good MH support. My experience has not been as pleasant. I am glad that you are at peace with your journey and so willing now you can to help others who are still struggling. I have had a terrible year and I am full of shock, bewildered, manipulated abused, deceived, the list goes on.I am gutted and shattered. I have a mental health care plan and my appointment is Monday morning. I can't wait. I also have a prescription for a n antidepressant from the doctor. I truly believe that I am in this state because of the events that have occurred. I have been on many antidepressant and antipsychotic and the side effects are awful. Do I start the therapy process with or without the med. I am really worried about the side effects. I am sick of feeling this way. Don't know what to do
