Well, I guess - from my perspective - reliance is a very personal thing, and is intrinsic (I can’t tell how reliant anyone is from the outside)…
tolerance, on the other hand, is something else (ie: it’s something I choose to apply) 🙂
@Birdofparadise8
Here’s my example:
if a person doesn’t have any other support and they receive all their support from one place (reliance), are they considered to be (tolerance) overly reliant on that one place?
the next question that comes to mind is:
How can that same person receive the support they need (reliance) if they don’t access (influenced by tolerance) the one place that can give them that support?
The next question is:
what kind of support are they seeking (reliance), and does the one place they receive any support meet any of those support needs (tolerance)?
having said that:
distress presents differently in different people, so who can actually determine if someone’s need for support from their single source of support is overly reliant or not?
and then:
When there is nowhere else, what better place is there than a forum with empathy and understanding?
yes, distress can present as many different things (when someone is upset and writes about it, it can seem confrontational, or it can seem intrusive, or it can seem needy) but it has to be taken in the context of what it is: someone being upset and doing their best to articulate that, and unload it, hopefully with an empathetic response.
Some people have a lot more to unload from their shoulders than others.
And there’s also the fact that all of us have days when we have less ‘spoons’ to cope with what we read here - that’s when good awareness can help and if that happens to me, I leave the message reply to another time when I can read someone’s message of distress and respond with empathy and support to match🙂
