That sounds like a good place to start, writing things down and asking you’d psych about how best to approach them 🙂
@Birdofparadise8
thanks for understanding regarding the typo! ☺️
That’s understandable regarding needing connection.. if meaningful connection and communication happens here, and it’s something you rely on, it makes sense that it has high value 🙂
Yeah, I do think having a chat about it some more with your psych regarding what happened the time you were at the pool would be good to explore - have a look at it and he can give his view from the ‘outside’ (ie: as opposed to your internal experience of it) I’m hoping 🙂
I feel like there is a lot more reflection that you’re now able to do, around rejection and anxiety, with more awareness of why it’s there - a really great start!
I also get what you’re saying about self soothing… I found it a really unusual term to apply to myself, too.
I guess I think of it more being able to regulate feelings in the same way I would try to offer comfort and console someone else, if they were distressed…in the case of needing to regulate my feelings, I would try to comfort and console myself, using self-talk that supports wellbeing like saying things I’ve mentioned before.. eg: in the instance someone’s actions have upset me, I would remind myself that I’m not responsible for their actions, only responsible for my own response 🙂
It did take me a while to get used to the term self soothe, too.
Maybe even ask your psych if there is another term we can use, that is an equivalent definition, that you’re more comfortable with..? 🙂
