Not Coping

Not Coping

Hey everyone how are you all?

@RiverSeal @Shaz51 @NatureLover @tyme @Former-Member @Eve7 @Former-Member @amber22 @Jynx @FloatingFeather

I'm not doing great at all today. I'm feeling down. I also keep beating myself up for everything and feel like I'm just failing. I need a break from everything. It's getting so hard that I don't know how to keep going anymore especially since I can't talk to anyone around me as they are leaving me or don't understand.

Hope you don’t mind me reaching out I just really need a chat and though I could come on here and vent and talk for a bit.

Thank you

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8 A big part of recovery (and dealing with the present) is working out what we need to do for ourselves to achieve that. Support is essential in helping facilitate that but it is ultimately ourselves that do the work - so well done on making such positive steps forward.

I do have a question after reading you did not receive the support you needed from the MH team - what is it that you need from them? If you are able to list your needs and convey them to the team then they may be in a much better position to accommodate and/or put in place levels of support that you require.

I don’t know how you can like weather that is so hot anything over 25 here is more then enough hahaha @Captain24

I actually received a call from the acute care team not that long ago to check in as I sent them an email to ask if I could get that support over the phone @Zoe7

I’m use to it @Birdofparadise8. When I was a kid it was basically 38-44 degrees all of January! It’s actually cold today though it’s 22. If it like this tomorrow morning I’ll be wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt to the funeral!

Im glad they have rung you back. I hope you can get what you need through them

Hi @Birdofparadise8, @Captain24, @Zoe7, @Eve7, @Shaz51. I hope you are all doing well this afternoon.

@Birdofparadise8 it may seem like a long way to go, but time passes by quickly. It doesn’t feel that long as when I was your age.

@Captain24 yeah intense sessions can take a lot out of you. Gosh, it’s so hot there. How do you cope?

@Zoe7 I think you make a good point that support is there to facilitate us but we ultimately do the work. I think many of us are set in the overindependent state of mind of needing to do things alone and not relying on others. Your post just highlights how it is okay to reach out for help as you work on yourself.

Re: Tw Not Coping

@creative_writer There is also the opposite side where we sometimes want others to do everything for us - and that is okay at times but it is not conducive to recovery and/or finding a way forward ourselves. Having support though is essential to helping us move forward - even if it is just someone to bounce things off, but an over reliance on it being the be-all and end-all does not help us to learn how to do things for ourselves or to find new avenues to follow to change our own lives for the better. This of course can only happen however when we are ready - and that takes different time for different people. I, myself, would not have survived (literally) without the support from members and staff here at SANE ...and it wasn't until I was ready that I could begin to work on any sense of recovery. For me now, having the support available is still essential to both maintaining that direction as well as knowing I have people in my corner when the days are rough.

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Zoe7 yes it does go the opposite way but for me I become so fixated on the other extreme, becoming hyper independent. Like lately I’ve been feeling stupid for reaching out for help though. Like do I really need all this support or am I becoming dependent. I feel like I shouldn’t be reaching out to helplines so much or have a referral put through for community mental health. I was also in intensive treatment for three months last year too. I feel like I should have my own shit together and not need any assistance, I just grew up with this mindset of keeping emotions under lock and key. I guess there is this expectation that I’ve volunteered with Lifeline in the past and I’m doing social work, it’s like I’m supposed to know what to do. I have this fear of dependency or becoming too reliant so at times I shut down. However, at the same time I want to feel supported and loved. It’s confusing.
