Welcome and getting started

Trying makes it worse

Trying makes it worse

Hi,

I'm EternalFlower and I've been feeling completely overwhelmed, sad, and pessimistic.

I've tried and been a responsible patient and person, reaching out to various services when I started feeling scarily anxious and suicidal, 2 years back..

My Dr is new, a young guy who regularly admits he's inexperienced, and aside from some good jokes, he actually does very little

I notice how easy it is to blame myself that I don't feel better, a total shame spiral, but I wander if my treatments just are bad....

I wanted to chat and hear anyone and hope I can use this space to help not feel so alone.

Thanks xxx EternalFlower

Hi @EternalFlower what an ordeal. I'm so glad you're home now too. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us.

It really stood out to me in your follow up post, how clear & coherent you sound. It must have been a fairly overwhelming drama. I think your ability to communicate what is going for you, through these rocky moments is a real strength, & you should recognise & feel proud. I think I've always noticed that about you.

I think I can relate to noticing odd things when in a high stress & unfamiliar situation. It's almost like it all feels too surreal - like @TAB said.

That was good of your psych not to charge you!

I'm really glad you got help - even if in hindsight, it wasn't necessarily warranted.

I'm guessing that maybe this was what you referring to in previous post, last week? Wanting to be able to express yourself without necessarily having to endure the mandated consequences. I can get that

Don't let it discourage you from expressing yourself future. If you feel like you don't want to be here - it's ok. I don't think that means you are always a danger to yourself when you feel that way. People can feel like that from time to time, or even frequently. It's the duty of the medical staff to intervene & we don't want them not to. Imagine how many lives have been saved. Talking is GOOD.

I hope I'm making sense - I'm very out of my depth discussing these types of matters. I'm also writing as I'm thinking... Kind of drafting ideas...I don't think I'm sounding as articulate as you are the moment.

I'm also going to tag @moderator as I want to make sure my comments are safe

Be proud of yourself for all the great things you achieved in this otherwise messy experience. (Sharing it here too) I am.

💜🦋💚

I know the warm blankets you speak of!! I was offered one years ago, late at night in the hospital waiting room. I kept refusing the offer. The other patients that were there encouraged me to accept, & telling me 'they are really good.'

I decided to try one, next time the nurse offered... Oh wow - so unexpectedly comforting! It must be a clever trick they do, to help patients feel ok.

I'm here, as are apple, tab, tuxedocat & tyme & anyone else - I suspect, whenever you want to chat. xxoo

Re: Trying makes it worse

@maddison thank you for tagging! Your writing was beautiful ❤️ If ever in doubt, I find these two threads really useful: How to guide: Create safety online when talking about suicide and How to post safely about self harm: A guide 😊

And @EternalFlower even though it sounds like it was disorienting, that you were able to ask for what you wanted (like the cop riding with you).

I'm wondering if you feel comfy talking to your psych about these feelings in future? Or if you two talked about how you might bring them up in future without being sectioned automatically?

like @maddison said, almost all of us with have thoughts like yours at some point in our lives. And it's important to talk about it. I hope your psych is able to talk about these feelings and thoughts with you in the future. And if hospitalisation seems like it's needed or something, then I hope they work with you if they think it's necessary.

Re: Trying makes it worse

Thankyou @Former-Member 😊 yes I have read those links before. They are very good. I especially like the flow chart, that helps members evaluate their situation re: talking about SI

I really appreciate your feedback & compliment!

I will continue to tag moderator in any future posts I feel unsure about.

Within the context of the forums I find it difficult to support members, because there are so many unknowns & it is a delicate subject.

I feel more confident writing to @EternalFlower because we have some background together. I wouldn't write this way to members I was unfamiliar with.

Can you provide any info on where I might find further study on how to approach supporting members, in regards to this topic?

I have already read the pages on Beyond Blue. I tried Googling courses a while back. I couldn't find anything. Also please email me if that more appropriate. No worries if nothing available. I thought, it's always good to ask! Thankyou.

Re: Trying makes it worse

ohh of course! And that all makes sense!

Maybe what I'll do @maddison is post anything extra I find at the bottom of those posts and tag you? That way others can find them easily too!

And yeah, love the idea of tagging mods if you're unsure. Always a good move!

Hi,

thanks for saying I sounded clear @maddison

I've tried to focus and hone in on things as the experience was, as @TAB said, totally surreal.

I am glad I found my voice to speak up @Former-Member @tyme I guess asking is a good tool to practise, to even just feel some semblance of control and humanity.

@Appleblossom they were all very young, it felt funny but Ur right I guess saves money? The experience was a type of miscommunication and a mini shock to my system,

I remember in session my Dr saying my cancelling of appointments stood out to him

He kept asking me what I wanted him to do...

I guess he was asking if I wanted to be hospitalised but I found it confusing it escalated so fast...no chance to talk and no understanding that si can exist while someone is still safe....that's its a confusing, complex thing...
