Children not communicating

Children not communicating

Hi everyone

I have no idea how I am going to get through the next few days. After having been seriously abused in every which way by my now ex-husband my children is no longer communicating with me. My son has also disallowed communication with my grandchildren. For the past four years I have tried to find out why. My children live in Europe and I in Tassie. I have now made the trip to Europe to sort things out and it's like banging your head against a brick wall. I am not allowed to see the little ones. I have been waiting for two days for him to arrange a meeting. Tomorrow I am travelling 600km to see my daughter, because tomorrow is the only time she has to see me for an hour. I've come out of major depression and suicidal tendencies in the past four years, but now it feels as though everything is falling apart. I'm at a loss as to what I can do.

Sorry for the rant, Ffm48

Hi @Ffm48
It's understandable that you spent many hours weeping on the plane but it seems to me that you have achieved much by visiting as you did. I suspect that it's not as much as you'd hoped but you're still in a much better position than you were before.
Thinking of you 💕 🎶

Re: Children not communicating

My apologies for not being back these last few day. I have had such a lot to cope with ... all I wanted to do was to curl up and not communicate with anyone. Of course, this is not what I did. I had made appointments with my psychologist, massage therapist, GP and other health professionals as well as the hairdresser (very important ) for immediately after my return. One appointment for each day ... that obliged to get out of the house. Then there was the singing lesson and chorus rehearsal; also obliging me to get out of the house. There are performances to prepare for, so I can't wag any of it. Admittedly, that's all I ended up doing, apart from curling up and weeping and feeling sorry for myself.

So what's the end result of my trip? Not what I had hoped for, but not quite the worst case scenario. We've gone from the silent treatment to getting abused. I guess that's a form of communication. Perhaps we can build on that?

Thank you @PeppiPatty for you support ... I'm happy for every smidgeon. I'm really grateful for the support each and every one of you afforded me. I don't know how I could've possibly got through the past month without your support. It felt so good to be understood, comforted, embraced.

Re: Children not communicating

Hi @Ffm48
It's wonderful to hear from you. You have done well to look after yourself so positively after your trip

There's nothing wrong with curling up for a while as you come to terms with all you've experienced in the last few weeks. It sounds like a move in the right direction that communication has developed from the silent treatment.

Keep the lines open and in time your relationships will develop further. I had a delightful development with my daughter this week. She's talking to me again. It's a beginning and one that with time will develop further They say that patience is a virtue. I have that patience and I believe you do too.

Take the time you need to recover from the trip that has proven to be a promise of a better future for you and your family.

Luv n Hugzzz 💕 🎶

Re: Children not communicating

Wow, @Kurra, it's wonderful your daughter is on speaking terms with you again!!! I can certainly relate to that.

I'm really hoping the communication won't die now, that it will continue in whatever way. I'm hoping there will be positive trickle down effect from my sister-in-law. When I left her after my last visit with her she gave me a book and slipped a card inside. I'll admit I didn't look at book or card, left it in the envelope and it was the last thing I unpacked a few days after I came back. I finally looked at the card and was surprised she had written something on the card (she never, ever does - she prefers to slip an extra piece of paper into the card, so the card can be used again!). But this time she had written on it "Dear ***, you are always important to me ..." - a long way from her comment of "utter nonsense". So, it seems I have an ally there .

Re: Children not communicating

dear @Ffm48

thankyou for you kind recognition of my note..... I'm reading these awesome messages from people like @Fluffyclouds @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Kurra and yourself.

Just personally......I feel like @Kurra but I have no communication with oldest son on the other side of Australia .....Im in Freo, Western Australia. Good luck @Kurra !! MI is hireditary for my son......it tears me apart when he stops communicating but..........he's 26 next week, he's an adult.

My suggestion might work for you or not but I feel you would be safer in yourself if you......just hold back a little with the sister in Law. Like......don't get caught up. You need to focus on getting through your days here.......

I mean it like be available but take a little detached way with her so you have energy for YOU.

Do you think that your Gradchildren would get cards and books from you in the future ?

@Faith-and-Hope writes : Keep stepping out in truth and integrity.

This is something I firmily believe in. Noonecan tell you what to do.
