Children not communicating

Children not communicating

Hi everyone

I have no idea how I am going to get through the next few days. After having been seriously abused in every which way by my now ex-husband my children is no longer communicating with me. My son has also disallowed communication with my grandchildren. For the past four years I have tried to find out why. My children live in Europe and I in Tassie. I have now made the trip to Europe to sort things out and it's like banging your head against a brick wall. I am not allowed to see the little ones. I have been waiting for two days for him to arrange a meeting. Tomorrow I am travelling 600km to see my daughter, because tomorrow is the only time she has to see me for an hour. I've come out of major depression and suicidal tendencies in the past four years, but now it feels as though everything is falling apart. I'm at a loss as to what I can do.

Sorry for the rant, Ffm48

Oh @Ffm48

What a kind gesture and act of belief in you as a person who is valued. I'm sure you will treasure her card. I do hope this will allow you to stride forward with a greater sense of your own worth as well as the knowledge that your trip to Europe has been successful. You're just one step closer to realising fulfillment of your hopes and dreams.

Walking beside you as you walk a road less travelled. 🎶💕

Hey @Kurra thats great news about your daughter 💜😊

@Ffm48 still thinking of you. I really hope in time the dust will settle and your children will come around. Take good care of you for now as I can imagine now that your home things will swirl in your head. You have been truly courageous through this. Sending hugs and best wishes 💜😊🤗💐

I love @Kurra and @Former-Member's responses to you @Ffm48 ...... the card really lets you know that a bridge has been created by your trip ..... and you know what ? Those kids will remember that you visited .... despite whatever the parents choose to do .... just keep going, looking for opportu ities to participate, and they will all know you are around and waiting ....

Courage, strength to persevere, hope, faith, and hugs coming your way .... and lots of 'em .... 🌷💗💕

Courage is a funny thing .... it engenders courage in others too .... we might be walking with you, but we are also borrowing from your example .... your courage to do what you did fortifies ours to keep persevering too .... ripples in a pond .....

Hi @Former-Member
It is good news however as much as I would like to chat or message regularly I'm trying my hardest not to push our fragile relationship too quickly. I have to keep reminding myself that 'Rome wasn't built in a day". 🎶🎵💕

I hear you @Kurra. I feel much the same. In joy and exuberance you can destroy what is just promising to grow. Considering mine haven't talked for four years, I can't expect loving family in a couple of days or weeks. Problem for me is that I'm picking and choosing my words so terribly carefully, then have to translate them that in the end I'm no longer sure whether I'm saying what I want to say.

My sister-in-law now understands that not appearances can be deceiving and the nature of DV. I know that in her dealings with her brother, my X she will have different antennaes out. I can't ask for more than that ... I'm hoping for a trickle down effect with my children. She doesn't tell people what to do; she tends to ask people questions - she's really good at that.

Re: Children not communicating

Hi @Ffm48
I think this is a wise approach. I'd be a little wary choosing your words so carefully as it's likely you fear of saying the wrong think could result in your children perceiving what you're saying as not being genuine. In my opinion it's far better to be yourself. That is as long as you don't become too effusive ad say toomuch. I am keeping my communication reasonably brief. I'm trying my hardest not to rush in where fools fear to tread. 💕🎶

Sending love to all who are separated from their loved ones.
I hope through time and healing, these relationships can bloom again.

Re: Children not communicating

Indeed, so many with MI have been separated from their loved ones; have lost contact. That's tough and on top of the MI we have to learn to cope, manage the hurt of isolation from family and finding strategies of reconnection.

I have decided to return to Europe next year irrespective of whether my children talk to me in the meantime or not. I'm sending them an email/message about this today. I hope this will kick-start a continuation of the conversation - I haven't heard from them since I left *sigh*.

Re: Children not communicating

@Ffm48. That's great. They will know you are serious in reestablishing that connection.
Also send cards and trinkets to the grandkids. I can already see how embarrassed my son is by my MI. He's only 14 & it has been a tough 2 years. It's not like it's obvious to others that I have an MI in the street.
Our communication is getting better as I've slowly gotten better.
Keep emailing and sending letters and postcards to your kids and grandkids. The nun (sorry can't remember what relative she is) - I think will also start advocating and teaching your kids about DV and may help them see things from your prospective - instead of just their own.
Keep fighting. I think you may win this battle over time - especially with your son.
