My at home mental health retreat

My at home mental health retreat

Today I started Day 1 of my at home mental health retreat. Seeing as though I can't afford to go to a private psychiatric hospital (or a relaxation retreat) I thought I would be my own private psychiatrist and design a mental health rehabilitation program of my own.

Thanks to @Powderfinger for inspiring me and @Former-Member for the encouragement 😊

Here are some of the goals I'm working towards...

Having a shower every day

Cleaning my teeth every day

Going to bed at 9.30pm

Watching one of Ediya's videos before I go to sleep

Getting out of bed at 7am

Meditating for 20 minutes

Doing my affirmations in the mirror

Eating healthy food

Drinking lots of water

Taking my vitamins and antidepressants

Taking my Pug for a walk

Going for long walks in nature

Going to Yoga

Riding my bike to the river and back every day (once I have it)

Review of today...

I had a shower (and washed my hair with my salon quality shampoo and conditioner).

I cleaned my teeth.

I can't say I ate healthy food because I didn't eat enough vegetables today.

I drank lots of water.

I took my vitamins.

I listened to my audio book "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk.

How'd you go today @Arizona ?

I love your lists. I'm a bit like that too. Lists help me a lot.

I used to get upset if something on my list didn't get done, was late or forgotten... now, I've learnt self care and how to manage it better.

Hi @BPDSurvivor

Not so good today. I found it very hard to motivate myself. I just did a 20 minute meditation and although it was hard to stay present I feel better (calmer).

Re: My at home mental health retreat

That's an achievement in itself @Arizona !

I try mindfulness for 5 mins and I struggle to stay present! I attempt to count 1-10 breaths....I don't think I've ever reach past 3 because my mind wanders off to la la land!

So whatever achievement is better than mine @Arizona !

Re: My at home mental health retreat

It takes practice. I learnt to meditate with the Headspace app. I meditated regularly for six years. I was able to meditate for 20 minutes three times a day. I started with 5 minutes a day.

I stopped because I didn't like how they changed the Headspace app and it became very expensive. But I want to get back into my meditation practice now.

Thank you for your encouragement ❤

Thanks for sharing @Arizona .

I use Smiling Mind. I have tried many, paid and unpaid apps, but I still prefer Smiling Mind. It caters to my style and need.

Enjoy your meditation!

Hi @BPDSurvivor

How are you?

I prefer smiling mind too- but also its the only one I can use, the others don't match my style or needs.

Hi @Arizona

How are you?

Re: My at home mental health retreat

I totally agree with you @oceangirl . With mindfulness and meditation, it's so important to find the app that works for you.

I appreciate Smiling Mind because i know it's not money driven and is research based.

I also like its approach to mindfulness in that it gives you a scientific understanding rather than just 'tell you what to do' - for me, if I understand the WHY, I'm more relaxed and inclined to do it.

Re: My at home mental health retreat

I gave up on my mental health retreat but I'm going to start again.

My goals for today are:

Talk to my therapist.

Have a shower.

Clean my teeth.

Drink some water. Yuck, I really don't feel like drinking water right now but I will do it.

Take my vitamins and antidepressants.

Make scrambled eggs with Grana Padano cheese and black pepper for lunch.

Make chicken and salad for dinner.

Loving the updates on your at home mental health retreat @Arizona!

Something I have learned is that progress is not linear and the fact that you have gotten back to it after some set backs is so great 🙂

I love that we as a community can help keep you on track but please do not feel pressure to be perfect at this. This is your own journey and it's probably gonna be a little messy at times. We are all proud of you no matter how many goals you tick off for the day!

Still cheering you on!
