The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Yes exactly @TAB

I don’t care how things are normally but if I am walking in with someone else I see the mess through new eyes and I feel embarrassed. I wish I could be tidier.

@Oaktree @NatureLover @Dimity For some reason probably cos moved so much, I am a tidy as I go type. Like that when I cook. My house looks a bit like laundry cos I do not want a dryer and often dry things near sunny windows and by heater ...lol ... but its very superficial mess mainly. Yet I cant abide super tidy and clean uber holier than tho. ... hence my approximately tidy ... phrase ... I figure the real clean types never had to move as much as me ... lol Mind you I have now been in one place for 20 years ... and it feels good to have sent my roots down with my garden plants ...I can contemplate how much of which shade of green leaf should get sun or be pruned. Never pruned in me life ... til recently ... it feels like flower arranging ... but not in a vase.

I like the way things look and feel when clean and tidy , but somehow mess is in my comfort zone @Oaktree I think it makes me feel more secure somehow, dunno, anyway, heading out into rain now, as its not stopping and have done nothing here today lol

Well done @Appleblossom

I wish for approximately tidy. My house is mainly messy. I love to prune but I get a bit carried away. My lime tree is only tiny and I wonder if a light prune would help it but I also wonder if I am capable of only lightly pruning something lol.
I wish I could see your garden. It sounds wonderful!

Re: The magic of tidying

@Oaktree I can understand cleaning for the cleaner. I found having a cleaner very invasive. I had them for about 18 months but none for last couple years. It helped while I was still on heavier meds and had allowed things to pile a bit. One cleaner was mean and racist and the other was nice, but moved and I let it go.

I am weird in that I do not seem to know these things ahead of time. I agree to the plan, but feel very uncomfortable and eventually change it. I also stopped having disability support workers recently, and am using plan mainly for physio and counselling and civic participation, I really do what I can myself. Like trimming jasmine with hand shears is good for activiating my back muscles which I also need when playing piano ... believe it or not. lol

I cannot say I do not care what people think, as I got into a tiz when had a visitor last week ... so am gathering old apple needs her quiet and space more than busy support. We are all, different, but it has been a process for me to figure out what my needs actually are.

@Appleblossom @Dimity @TAB @NatureLover @MDT

The cleaner is here now and I feel so stressed. I gave her my list which I sms’d her yesterday. She had her daughter decipher it into her language because she doesn’t speak English very well. She is from the middle east and speaks Arabic.

My husband is at work today, normally when the cleaner is here, he has been at home to calm me down. I hope she gets done quickly but gets everything on the list done.
