The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

@TAB @Appleblossom I had a laptop that used to overheat. I bought a cheap adjustable incline to give it an airgap but the battery eventually died and I ran it directly off mains.

I don't really have a study nook... I have stuff distributed over several rooms. Actually devising a study nook and a reading nook would be a Good Thing to aim for. I'm so dependent on good lighting these days.

I actually do have a study nook. My son moved out and left a nice big desk in his room. I moved a computer chair in there and it’s where I go for the online peer chats and topic Tuesday’s. Unfortunately all the washing baskets are also in that room. But the desk is tidy. It’s nice to have a dedicated space for my laptop.

Re fridge in bag of rice ... I just did what my counsellor told me to do. She meant well but they really do need to face the facts that they dont know everything and have massive input in the souls and lives of people. I am going through my own massive upheaval in last few days coming to terms with some bullying that cost me work and Loss of Income and respect from 15 years ago, but bullying in current time to cover up what happened in the past. Slowly understanding and resetting my opinion of this person who is gunning for political honours etc. I put up with low grade repeated boundary violations, but now I have clearly called her out. We will see what happens. I do not think she intended to harm me as much as she did, and she is struggling to come to terms with some consequences. The computer is fine now, son fixed it by shaking dust etc out. lol I am still a bit wired only sleeping a few hours. I have only realised. The counsellor got this bit right ... classic playground bullying ... counsellor also thought the person was jealous of me but that did not make sense, now I realise a lot of things past that were said and done and adding it all up. Its her guilt. I was clueless I trusted her decency. I am reducing my social things, not going to senior exercise class, where there is another bully, but will go to the 2 choirs I have planned today. Lamb soup on the make. I am too wired to do really detailed sorting physical stuff. Busy sorting through social stuff, but slowly tidying it up. Just getting through it. I worked last night and told lead facilitator about it in debrief time, we might be expanding later in year, so I might even get more paid work again. That will also be for a good cause.

Hugs @Appleblossom . Sounds like a rocky patch. And when we feel beset upon worries multiply. Maybe some downtime is called for, doing something to occupy the mind's foreground while the processing gets down in the background. I can't talk, I've been in overwhelm on and off for a while, but recorder practice comes to mind.

Talking about what is happening is important, it helps untangle the complications when we string words together for others, whether in sound or text. It's a great help when your counsellor also sees the patterns.

Last night and today I shifted some stuff in the livingroom. And I've filled a box for the oppshop. If I can get it to the oppshop today it will be a win.

@Dimity

Hope your bags are gone. I have some waiting for more to fill it.

I have a lot of head pain so reading and concentrating not the best will get back to more practice. All i could do today were short 10 minute sessions.

Tension headache @Appleblossom ? Progressive relaxation (a thing before mindfulness came in) helps me, or the body rotation in yoga nidra.

Happy to report I got the box to the oppshop. Two small corners of the livingroom look better and I even used furniture polish.
