The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

@Delicatessen

I peel bananas and put them in ziplock bags and freeze them.

Then I use them for banana smoothie’s. Just put a cup of milk in a blender, break two frozen bananas in and add a dash of vanilla. Blend and drink. Delicious!

enjoy!

@Dimity @NatureLover @Oaktree @TAB @MDT

Yesterday I cleaned up all the jars on my kitchen and gave bench an extra special clean.

Today, folding son's clothes into 2 neat piles.

Sometimes it can feel like a gentle mesmerising magic doing those repetitive things, other times overwhelming. Mostly I have the approach of doing what I can and accepting what still is to be done ...

Now that you mention it @Appleblossom , the sound of iron used to be very calming. The regular 'hiss' of the steam and sound of water shaking inside.

Good work, @Appleblossom 👍

@Dimity You haven't been around, are you doing OK?

I have "clutter blindness" - and each evening I notice my mess afresh and it's a shock 😞

Re: The magic of tidying

Thanks for checking @NatureLover. I feel a bit lost. I've been out more than usual hoping it would lift my spirits. I sympathise with your "clutter blindness". Yes it all looks worse at night. I can't face it at the moment.
