The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I tidied up a rosemary bush and made tea. A good follow on theme from the mornings activity in town and seeing a little of the ANZAC parade.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Appleblossom I planted a rosemary several weeks ago.

I saw some pansies at the nursery...

Ophelia. There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love,
remember. And there is pansies, that's for thoughts.
Laertes. A document in madness! Thoughts and remembrance fitted.

Ophelia. There's fennel for you, and columbines. There's rue for you,
and here's some for me. We may call it herb of grace o' Sundays.
O, you must wear your rue with a difference! There's a daisy. I
would give you some violets, but they wither'd all when my father
died.

I also bought a couple of daisies I used to have wild violets. Perhaps they're still there, under the hellebores. I'm not following Shakespeare, just riffing.

I've been plugging on, discarding some old photocopies but keeping others that still look interesting in case I return to study.

Yesterday I picked up another bagful of litter on my daily walk.

Well done @Shaz51. I'm behind on gardening tasks. Potting, repotting, planting out, weeding. Tomorrow I might rake more leaves for the green waste collection.

Re: The magic of tidying

I still haven't managed to tackle the kitchen, which is out of control and desperately needs attention... But yesterday I managed to tidy my desk fully! It was a mountain of haphazard notes and papers. My mind feels much more orderly now.

Re: The magic of tidying

Well done with the desk @NatureLover that's a huge achievement.

Today I went through some old files and discovered some memoirs of Dad's tucked in with correspondence. Quite a find.

I enjoyed a walk in a nature reserve then came home and raked gum leaves.

Hello @Dimity @NatureLover @Appleblossom @Shaz51 @TAB

Threw out some recyclables today as well as the kitchen skip and compost for the compost bin. The kitchen is almost back to normal. Emptied out the fridge. Will do the sink and clean the celery juicer. Tomorrow may tackle my room with washed clothing on the floor
