The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Ok I just sorted through the clothes in my wardrobe. I got rid of two garbage bags worth which I will take to goodwill on the way to the shops. Just have to get a damp cloth and dust all the coat hangers but I will do that tomorrow.

I noticed I also need to clean the mirror because it’s dusty.

Great work @NatureLover @Appleblossom @tyme @Oaktree . Hope you enjoyed your rest day @Former-Member .

I felt a bit foggy today but I did some weeding and tossed out some files. If I can clear some filing cabinet drawers I'll be able to store other things - or sell a cabinet or two.

Hope you're going OK sorting stuff ahead of your move @TAB .

... post reply ***Thanks *** for your reminder re me and clearing stuff out. Had been avoiding, resting on laurels, done bare min, thought was good effort, you know, the usual .. got 2 boxes jammed w bedding and a good strong shopping bag full of work clothes to op shop ok 5am sunday morning... perfect timing .. me in clothes normally only wear inside at home. Filled car up with petrol on way home, ok checked prices and took advantage of no traffice to dash across street to get 5 cents a litre cheaper lol so save about $2, well $20 if filled up in 3 days time ha ha

@Dimity @Oaktree @Former-Member just threw weetbix box out ok wasnt much left, soaked in water and threw outside for animals ..Everything's on borrowed time now, hey ....

well if dont need it for work in week's time , it's got to justify space in car .. going to be some regrets myeh................

Thanks @Oaktree and @Dimity 🙂

And well done, @Appleblossom @Dimity and @Oaktree !

Yesterday I "pottered" for about 4 hours! I completely tidied the bathroom and lounge-room, plus did 3 loads of laundry to catch up! Amazing that I had the energy.

Today I need to tackle the desk and the kitchen, both of which are unfunctional 😞

Thats great @TAB you got stuff done. Youre now with us at the tidy up group! I came down with gastro this morning. Took something for it and am feeling better. I may do washing tomorrow but today will be another quiet day. May just clean the basics today and not demand much of myself. Got a produce delivery today so will have to put celery in aluminium foil for keeping and clear out my crisper and use up leftover vegetables in a stew. But yes loo will get cleaned today. I think that will be all.

Thats good @TAB did not know you were on this thread. Very motivating yeah? Yes loo will definitely get cleaned @Oaktree @Dimity lol Oh well. Iodine is great for gastro. So will get in there remove rolls and plastic packaging etc. The laundry looks so much better since I tackled it the other day. The loo will look good too. Little by little, bit by bit!
