The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I am going to snap into some action and go through my wardrobe today. Hopefully I can make space for stuff I currently wear. I don’t remember the last time I took something out of my wardrobe to actually wear. I should be able to send a lot of stuff to goodwill.

Good job regarding your computer desktop @tyme

Well done!

These things can get a bit untidy and out of hand, can’t they?

Re: The magic of tidying

I put things on the desktop and sooner or later, it gets all cluttered. Then I have a cleanup where I put everything into folders and delete what I don't need @Oaktree .

All the best with your tidying today. Start small, and work your way through. Otherwise, it may be a giant task!

Re: The magic of tidying

I need to sort my laptop desktop out that way too @tyme

It has uni stuff on the desktop but I am taking a break from attempting to study this year. I need to hang onto the files though in case I return to studies.

Thanks for the advice to take things slowly. I have been doing absolutely nothing about tidying since I conquered the bedroom. So I need to get off my chair and actually do something towards it. I have been thinking about it but that doesn’t actually get anything done.

I have been so tired today I just needed some rest so will put off cleaning for another day @Oaktree but great work attacking your wardrobe. Its making me see that I can do the same. We can keep on inspiring oneanother. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel a bit better. Just needed time to rest and rejuvenate today

@Former-Member

Sometimes rest is much needed and will help us have the energy and motivation to tidy another day. I love this thread for inspiration to actually get off my chair and start doing things. I don’t do things every day either.

Good going @Appleblossom

Sounds like a rest is well deserved!

Turns out I have to go to the shops now to get hubby some pants for his new job ( starting May) so I will tackle the wardrobe when we get back. For now, just enjoying the forums.

Yes I think so @Oaktree I really needed R&R today, will tackle things Sunday hopefully. I'll let you know how I go. I'm quite messy but like you find this thread motivating. My laundry is now clear after some effort in there the other day
