The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Last night I did a heap of cleaning and rearranging of furniture ready for when the new couch was delivered this morning. I swept the floor, dusted furniture, moved stuff from the spare room into the lounge room (box shelving units), moved all the washing baskets (about 6 or so) into the front room. I really wanted to mop but I ran out of steam. Also we went through the spice draw and threw away everything that was out of date.

That's a lot of work @Oaktree .

And a lot of washing baskets.

I've been trying to go through some papers and getting stuck.

I need to put clothes away @Dimity @Oaktree . Just have clean clothes in laundry baskets. Ha ha. I’m a messy person. I only get the tidying bug when I’m extra manic. I’m manic atm but too tired to tidy up now. Besides I’m stretched out in bed with puss on my legs. Can’t disturb her.

@Oaktree why 6 washing baskets 🧺?

Puss sounds as good as a weighted blanket @GezzaP . Better in fact.

Manic is hard - hope you're sleeping. I think I worry more about tidying when I'm depressed but probably don't have the capacity to do it.

@Glisten

6 washing baskets because nothing ever gets folded and put away. Also not enough storage

I’m the same @Oaktree . Need to sort my clothes and put away but storage space is a problem. Did take some clothes that don’t fit to charity bin last week so well done me.

Re: The magic of tidying

I slept ok last night until woke up to go to loo about 3.30am had a splitting headache and couldn’t go back to sleep. Had about 6 hours. Still got terrible headache. Caused by back and neck pain. Need a new pillow too but very expensive to get proper pillow and I’ve had lots of bills this week. Don’t get paid again until next Weds. Painkillers had no effect on headache still got it. Need something stronger; but haven’t got a script I reckon. Will try putting tiger balm on forehead. I ignore tidying when depressed then think should do it when manic. Either way rarely do it. Hate cleaning.
