The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

@Dimity exercise is hard! You should absolutely be proud of forming that new habit. This is my second summer of paying a gym membership just so I can use the treadmill because I know I won't walk outside if it's too hot. I know a lot of people would call it a waste of money, it even feels like a waste to me but whatever it takes right? It means that come winter I can go outside again and not feel like I have to start all over. I'm still really slow, but getting better each week

@Oaktree it sounds like you're also taking some time out for some self care rather than falling in a heap. I wonder why we're so quick to use supportive language for other people, and then when it comes to ourselves it gets all judgy? Psych sessions are EXHAUSTING. And can have quite a hangover effect. Just turning up for them is incredibly brave - good for you!

Walking at the gym is a great idea for summer @Chantarelle . A bit of resistance training could be good too. I should resume my core and resistance exercises, I slacked off after hospital admissions.

@Oaktree thinking of you. Working through pain and trauma is hard. I trust your psychologist is giving you the necessary support. Be gentle with yourself and take all the time you need.

Today I picked up neighbourhood litter. Good for the environment but I tend to do it when procrastinating about my decluttering.

@Dimity

I just tidied up my desk. Put all my Tafe stuff safely in a box. I only kept the assessment stuff and handbooks.

I need to do some bulk cleaning so that I have space to study.

Wow a clear surface @Oaktree . I've just been going through stuff on my kitchen table but have only cleared a space or two.

Well done for working on finding spaces on your table. I need to work on that too. My table just attracts stuff. I have a puzzle board sitting on there at the moment. Will ask hubby if we can put that away because it is a bit hard.

Re: The magic of tidying

Yes @tyme

I have a printer on the right side and an organiser on the left side. There is psychology stuff sitting on top of my printer but I put all my Tafe stuff away. I also just cleared off my table today so I can also study there. There is a bit more room to spread out at my kitchen table.
