The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I'm starting again, not for the first time and probably not the last either, hoping to make a difference with fortnightly help.

I wonder what I can achieve by Easter. If I can last the distance, that is.

Clocking up the 200th page.

@NatureLover @Oaktree @Shaz51 I took a load to the waste transfer station today, then started looking at my craft stockpiles. I found lots of unfinished projects to set aside to come back to (I'll try to work through them now I'm attending a fortnightly craft group). The op shop just told me they accept fabric, so I'll sort some to donate.

It's a start.

One shelf at a time is good @Shaz51 . It's OK if you put some things back. Clearing even a little bit of space helps.

@tyme there's a Zen mindset that's sort of like mindfulness where you're only open to the task at hand. But it takes practice.

Just being in the present and not worrying about the past or future might br a cop-out but it's calming and can help your focus.

I tried learning Zen meditation from a former monk but as soon as I silenced my mind my unresolved pain would surface and I'd be in floods of tears. It's an odd style of meditation as you do ut with eyes only half shut and you remain alert and aware of your environment while simultaneously focussing on breath (I think - it was a long time ago). And correct posture was insisted on. Very disciplined.

Congratulations on your 200 pages, @Dimity .

Well done for taking a whole load to the waste transfer station! Did they charge you to leave it there?

Re: The magic of tidying

@NatureLover yes they charge for hard rubbish but not electrical/cables.

It would have been free if I'd waited for the streetside pick up in August.
