Self harm

Self harm

I feel like my thoughts are out of control they are around SH, am safe but am struggling with the thoughts I have been so stressed the thoughts are just coming back. I don't want to have my addiction to SH again. I want to stay clean.

Re: Self harm

Hi @Fluttershy1

I see you're struggling at the moment which isn't great to hear. I do sit with unsettling emotions at times as a way of trying to improve my BPD and practice understanding what caused those emotions to happen. It's hard when you want to remove those feelings but believe me, I have learnt that those feelings are like waves in the ocean and whilst they may seem rough and horrible at the time, they do ease in severity and they do go away. It just takes time for that to happen. I also know by riding out those emotions, you become stronger mentally at dealing with them as well and that's a great feeling when they happens. It means you've challenged yourself and set yourself up like a game where the difficult thoughts and emotions are your competitors and it's always a great feeling knowing you've won!
Please keep on fighting and holding on! You're a great person with lots of wonderful qualities and strengths and I really enjoy having you around to chat to on the forums.

Tske care and stay safe forumite friend!

Re: Self harm

Hi @Fluttershy1

I'm so glad you're safe! I know things may serm like an effort right now but just being here in the forums is a big achievement and I'm very proud of you 👍🏻! Calling out for help is hard but that's another achievement and that deserves to be celebrated as well. You're doing great things tonight and I for 1 am so proud of you! Keep it up.
What's making you feel so overwhelmed and upset if I may ask? Maybe if you shared what's going on, it might make things feel less overwhelming for you? I know that often helps me- talking about it- as things soon appear less horrible for me and I'm able to deal with the issue a lot better knowing I've spoken about it to someone else.

Sitting with you and sending you positive thoughts!

Re: Self harm

@Judi9877 - just family issues, they don't seem to care about the vaccine, they won't let my brother get it because his school keeps on ending up with covid positive cases and I'm worried that he is going to get it. They are judging my MH that is making me feel worthless, I'm 10 months SI free which is bringing up a lot of flashbacks.

Re: Self harm

Hi @Fluttershy1

Wow! That's a lot to deal with! Family issues are something I'm familiar with as I have trouble with my emotions (BPD and depression are my main issues along with schizophrenia but the other 2 are my biggest problems) and I often get into trouble with them. I have a hard time regulating my emotions especially when it comes to topics I'm passionate about which doesn't sit well with my family.
I know the whole Covid-19 vaccine thing is tough and very controversial especially when there are cases in the local community and it's difficult to make people see the benefits of it when they have their own ideas. Is your brother old enough to get the vaccination on his own accord? Like over 16 or whatever the age is? Maybe you could speak to your family about letting your brother make his own choice if he is at an age if that is possible?

As for your MH and your family making you feel worthless, that's not great to hear. You are a strong and beautiful person and you certainly aren't worthless! You're funny and kind - I've just seen the posts you've put up in @Jynx new discussion thread The Ice-Memery - and they're great! I plan to keep on following that new thread as a way of making me laugh whenever I feel down or depressed as I think it's a great thread, especially if you keep on posting funny things as a way of looking at mental illnesses😂!

I'm so proud of you with your SI status of being 10 months free. Well done forumite friend on that achievement👍🏻! I know it can be tough and it's something I struggle with everyday because of my BPD illness so I'm very proud of you. Flashbacks are hard but you're strong and I like the way you're handling them. I'm especially glad you're safe which is important when times are tough.

I've got to head to bed now so I won't be here on the forums. Please keep on posting and call out for help with the relevant SANE helplines if you need them. Please also use your supports and self care strategies as well. I know you are a strong person and I wish you all the best for a great nights rest.

Take care forumite friend!
