Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Hi forumites👋
I just thought I'd start a new thread to lend some support to forumites who may be experiencing lockdown in Sydney and surrounds. I'm from Melbourne and I've experienced being lockdown on many occasions so I'd like to use this thread as a way of supporting forum members who may be having a hard time right now.

I'd like to say the number 1 piece of advice I can give is to take care of yourself both mentally as well as physically.
Use this time to take it easy and do things you enjoy that might not be usually possible such as watching DVDs or catching up with Netflix and the like if that's your thing. There are plenty of great shows on those streaming devices so make the most of it. I know my housemate used the time to catch up on old episodes of All Saints and Blue Heelers as well as another friend in Perth watching the Orange Is The New Black series when they were in lockdown over there.

If the news of the numbers of people with COVID-19 is getting too much, switch off and do something else. I know that in the end, just hearing Daniel Andrews voice made me annoyed so I gradually learnt to stop listening by doing some knitting. Trust me, I knitted lots of beanies for charity by doing this!

There are other things that I did but this is for each of you to share your concerns and thoughts and experiences of what's going on for each of you so feel free to join in the discussion. Like I said, I'm in Melbourne and am only getting news from the media outlets and social media. I'm not living the lockdown in Sydney and surrounds so I can't comment on what it's like up there.

Please take care and stay strong. Lockdown is hard but it's not forever and you will get through this. I believe in each of you and know that it doesn't last.

@Judi9877 ,

We're in this boat together.... locky D 6.0 for Melbournians.

I'd rather be safe than sorry. I work amongst many people who are currently in quarantine....so I'm a bit anxious about this one. I'm not so edgy about whether I get covid...I'm more concerned if I'm a carrier and I spread it.

Take care all Sydney-siders and Melbournians!

Hi @BPDSurvivor @MDT @Anastasia @StuF @Owlunar @Shaz51 @Daisydreamer @Former-Member and all forumites here. Just checking in to see how everyone is going during the various states lockdown episodes.

@BPDSurvivor that's a lot of stress to be under for you as you know of people in quarantine. Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way🥰

To be honest, I'm going okay, although I skipped Tafe classes today on Zoom as I had a bad nights sleep and didn't feel like attending. I did go out and do some food shopping but tried to be in and out quickly as my temper isn't that great in shopping centres at the moment, unlike my housemate, who although is scared of the virus, has no problems going out daily for food. I personally don't enjoy shopping now as much I did before the virus came about and can't see the fun in it anymore.

What have you been doing today? The good news is that at least the Olympics is on so there's something to watch on TV at least for sports fans. At worst, there's always dvds or streaming services like Netflix I guess if you are into that sort of thing. For me, I've had experiences one going without a Tv and I actually prefer to have the tv off and did so when my housemate was in hospital for surgery for a few days this week. Talk about bliss in my little world! I even managed to start a new cable scarf for my housemates Mum that I've attempted to start so many times before but messed up because my housemate likes talking.

Take care and stay strong forumites!

Hi @Judi9877 ,

You can only do what you can. Look after yourself.

Im actually not following the Olympics at all so I can't comment much on it.

At least I made it for a long walk today. I was grumpy while walking, but after, I was happy I did go. During lockdown, I know I have to stay active. Otherwise I suffer later.

Look after yourselves everyone!

I'm actually getting 'Olympics fatigue'!

Looking forward to the Paralympics though.

But anyway, yes, any day I get off my fat arse for a walk is a good (or at least better) day 🙂

Hi @MDT @StuF @BPDSurvivor @Anastasia @Owlunar @Shaz51 and everyone here. Just checking in to see how everyone is handling lockdown in the various states of the eastern seaboard.

I'm not travelling too well - in fact, I think my depression is back unfortunately- so I'm lucky that I've got my psychologist appointment today as I really need it.

Take care and make the most of the day!

Hi @Judi9877 !

Im beginning mindfulness group sessions next week. Due to COVID restrictions, we can't gather f2f. I'm looking to practise mindfulness so as to help me rely more on the present moment than medication.

As for the restrictions, I'm sorry to hear it is difficult. I'm feeling glum, but I'm making myself stick to a schedule to include a daily 1 hr walk or so. I'm living with the anxiety that I have COVID and will pass it to someone else. Why do outbreaks follow me? Every major outbreak we've had is either in the suburb I live in or in the suburb I work in... I guess I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time?

However, I've booked in for a jab for next week.

take care @Judi9877 . Hope your psych appointment goes well.

Morning all.

Bad case numbers in NSW again 😞

But lockdown is not too bad for me. I've actually got four things planned for next week! Group therapy Monday, 2nd jab Tuesday, psychologist Thursday and physio Friday!!! Almost a full card!

But anyway, sorry to hear you're not traveling so well @Judi9877 . I hope your psychologist appointment goes well and that you squeeze some good stuff into your day

And @BPDSurvivor yep, walk (even just stepping outside) So important if you can
