Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Hi forumites👋
I just thought I'd start a new thread to lend some support to forumites who may be experiencing lockdown in Sydney and surrounds. I'm from Melbourne and I've experienced being lockdown on many occasions so I'd like to use this thread as a way of supporting forum members who may be having a hard time right now.

I'd like to say the number 1 piece of advice I can give is to take care of yourself both mentally as well as physically.
Use this time to take it easy and do things you enjoy that might not be usually possible such as watching DVDs or catching up with Netflix and the like if that's your thing. There are plenty of great shows on those streaming devices so make the most of it. I know my housemate used the time to catch up on old episodes of All Saints and Blue Heelers as well as another friend in Perth watching the Orange Is The New Black series when they were in lockdown over there.

If the news of the numbers of people with COVID-19 is getting too much, switch off and do something else. I know that in the end, just hearing Daniel Andrews voice made me annoyed so I gradually learnt to stop listening by doing some knitting. Trust me, I knitted lots of beanies for charity by doing this!

There are other things that I did but this is for each of you to share your concerns and thoughts and experiences of what's going on for each of you so feel free to join in the discussion. Like I said, I'm in Melbourne and am only getting news from the media outlets and social media. I'm not living the lockdown in Sydney and surrounds so I can't comment on what it's like up there.

Please take care and stay strong. Lockdown is hard but it's not forever and you will get through this. I believe in each of you and know that it doesn't last.

Photography is such fun. I have tried a few times to get my head around the technical side of it, but it doesn't stick in my mind. I really need to just forget about that stuff and enjoy taking photos.

I mainly take landscapes and natural features.

Great that you had such a productive session with your psychologist! Looking upwards forwards is always good

Coronavirus & lockdowns...what a time to be alive. As for lessons- who knew toilet paper could inspire violent confrontations in supermarkets??

Lockdown is taking its toll @Judi9877 but past generations had to adjust to crisis, accept the losses and be content with what they had. We expect too much and don't have as much patience with change. My Nana's family lost many businesses in the Great Depression they owned lots of pubs in Sydney, all wiped out in the Depression, lost it all except one pub that was then stolen by a narc her sister married later. My Nana and Pop had to save for one thing at a time, she said the day they had enough money to buy a bath she was just thrilled and it was a big milestone.

Terrible things happen and there is still so much to be grateful for in Australia.

My niece and nephew gave me a lovely pressie yesterday that I can distract myself with https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/20/everyone-is-awesome-lego-launch-first-lgbtq-set

and The L Word Generation Q season 2 starts tomorrow or Monday I think.

I hope that your health improves and that the Melbourne lockdown lifts soon, you guys have had a shocker, but the delta variant is too virulent, I think that Australia is in for a rude shock....take care Corny

Did lots of running around, cleaning and errands today with my sis for Mums funeral and wake which is on Monday @Shaz51 . Going to have a quiet day tomorrow, clean my apartment so I can fall in a heap Monday night.

It feels like summer in ol' Sydney town. The smoke is back and lots of helicopters overhead earlier ....not water bombers, but think there was some sort of cringe worthy anti-lock down protest somewhere. I hope that you are travelling OK with lock down. Israel opened up once they reached 78-80% vaccinations only to bring in more restrictions later when children started becoming infected in high rates.....going to be a protracted situation for some time I think.
