So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Nice work @Oaktree
I went for a long walk last weekend for several hours. Included pounding the pavement, exploring a huge parks and navigating my way the some bushland. Got nicely caught up in the outskirts of a storm, but that was ok.
It was fantastic.

It sounds like a great walk @Delicatessen
@sol_87
I just got home from an interval walk and it was harder than the first one. The fast walking intervals lasted 90 secs with a 2 minute recovery time. I am hot and sweaty now. I am proud of myself for even going for a walk today as I wasn’t feeling like it.

Hi @Oaktree very nice re your interval walk. Just being out there forever how long, whatever reason and for however long is great for the soul and mental health.

Re: Walking for Wellness
Great work @Oaktree !! That is awesome news. Especially because you did it even though you didn't 'feel like it'. What psychologists always tell me is that action comes first and then motivation, so I hope you keep going. Maybe this forum will encourage you.
It has certainly helped me. I went for an interval walk today too. I just did one minute fast and one minute rest, because I can't work out how to set the timer for different times (how do you do this @Oaktree )?
I can feel the effects in my core, actually, and I have read that this kind of exercise is good for our pelvic floor muscles too. I did 30 minutes in two chunks (with some grocery shopping in the middle).
I wouldn't have done it without this thread!! I was also so excited because I was out of breath when I got home, and it did feel like a fairly solid effort!
Thanks for the inspiration!
I am so glad you had such a lovely walk @Delicatessen - it sounds marvellous!

I am so glad to hear that you are finding this thread helpful. I started it after an online chat to keep me accountable. I have not alway been successful in keeping it up but I keep coming back to it. I too am grateful for the other contributors here that help to inspire me.
I actually have the Lite n’ Easy app and they have recordings of the interval walks on that. I am in my first week of Lite n’ Easy.
Good luck to you with your walking and well done with your interval walk.

Re: Walking for Wellness
That is awesome @Oaktree - go you!
Staying accountable with a forum thread is so powerful I think - for breaking habits, but hopefully for making them too. I found forums so helpful when I was giving up smoking. I think it was the power of a 'community' that made that finally possible for me. And it was the best thing I have ever done!
That is cool that Lite and Easy provide the timings for the walk. Do they have nice food too?
I find it so hard to get into a 'habit' with exercise. I always fall off the wagon and it really sucks. But I always walk, so it would be good if I could turn it into the kind of exercise that is really good for me. (I have pretty much given up on losing weight due to my medication - it is IMPOSSIBLE - or so it would seem).
Best of luck with your onward journey! You are doing it!

I am nearing the end of my first week on Lite n’ Easy and so far I am enjoying the food. Delicious and nutritious and quite filling.

Re: Walking for Wellness
Hey @Oaktree !
How is it going? Have you been for any more interval walks? How is the Lite n' Easy going? Any results so far?
I haven't been on any interval walks these past few days. I have been preparing my home for Airbnb guests and running around buying supplies, so I haven't had a chance.
I probably won't do a walk today either, but tomorrow hopefully 🙂
How are things with you?

Re: Walking for Wellness
Hi @sol_87
It’s hard to talk about results with Lite n’ Easy here on the forums because we are not allowed to talk about weight loss and such. However, so far it is working well for me. I just got my second delivery yesterday. No I haven’t been walking lately. I was feeling a bit unwell after my covid shot and then the weather has been unpredictable. It’s a wet one here again today.
