Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Hi @Oaktree

Ah, right. I didn't realise that about talking about weight loss on the forums.

I'm glad to hear Lite n' Easy is working though!

Sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell.

Let us know when you get out again!

Enjoy your cosy day 🙂

Cheers,
Sol

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi Everyone

Hope you’re all enjoying your walking!! I continue to be inspired by this thread.

I went on a lengthy walk this weekend. It was a long drive to get there, with some of it down dirt roads. But it was worth it!

Walked through beautiful bushland with the sound of running water in creeks and the crashing sounds of waterfalls (some you could only glimpse, others came into full view). Ended up having to do a short, sharp incline that tested out some new scrambling skills (slow going but I got there).

The reward was ending up at some large, beautiful rock pools. Didn’t go for a swim but it was a glorious spot for morning tea. Lots of lovely birds along the way and some kangaroos.

Went on a second hike, which took us through an unused track which was slow going underfoot. Still not too bad, though.

Hi @sol_87

Thanks for your reply.

@Delicatessen

I am imagining beautiful waterfalls and birdsong. How lovely. Well done on your hike. Sounds like the scrambling was well rewarded. I really should buy a National Parks Pass. We have one not too far away. Probably 20 minutes drive or so. Nature walks are so lovely.

Sounds lovely @Delicatessen . Last week I walked part of a nature trail along a suburban creek and saw a few ducks. I've been doing more incidental walking and skipping my usual circuit but it's no substitute, I think I should try to do both. Today I didn't walk far but picked up a bagful of litter along the way.

Hi guys,

Yesterday and today I walked up to the shops and back. I need to get back to walking every day. It’s a bit harder with rainy weather. This week is sunny again though. I should make hay while the sun shines. Yesterday and today I was forced to walk as hubby has the car. He has started working again which is great. I really need to head down to the park for a walk every afternoon. I am considering buying a National Parks Pass when hubby has his knee surgery and he can walk again. I love to hike.

Well done Meggle. Victoria doesn't charge for national parks entry - perhaps they should to contribute to maintenance.

I'm still walking but my back's a bit sore. Probably something to do with picking up 154 pieces of litter the other day. A lot of them small but I didn't want them to get into the storm water drains (thence waterways and the bay). I used to pick up regularly - something to aim for.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Congrats @Oaktree - It is good to hear you have had some sunny days. And being forced to walk can be a great motivator I find. Hiking sounds wonderful!

I have been down these past few days, and in a significant diversion from my normal nature, I have stopped caring about anything to do with my health.

I am house-sitting at my neighbour's house, and it is cold and dark down here. It is having an impact on my mental health I think.

Instead of going out for a walk, I tend to just go back to bed. And this makes the situation so much worse.

I am feeling very bleak. But I will try to force myself out for a walk tomorrow morning.

I hope you get some more walks this week! 🙂 xx

Hi guys,

I forgot to report in yesterday. Yesterday morning I went for a walk along an ocean path. It was very pleasant. I saw a willy wagtail along the way. It isn’t a particularly long walk but it does have a hill in it. The water looked very pretty too.
