Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

its basically what you said re intervals, was from scientific study @Oaktree for fastest loss over 2 week period, for better results they change intervals over say 10 weeks.

I did a program years ago that had to walk 30 mins a day, and it if messed up could walk more , it worked at the time

Re: Walking for Wellness

Makes you feel alive doing that kind of walk. At times I run for 30 secs at intervals during my walk . Raising the heart rate a little is really good for clearing your mind and body. Having said that I’ve just eaten some chocolate cake and cream

That study is really interesting @TAB

I don't know about feeling alive @perspective I was certainly feeling worn out!

Perhaps bring 2 day break forward or swap next couple for a walk @Oaktree recovery is very important.

No recovery, no gain

Re: Walking for Wellness

Great! @Oaktree - congrats!

Have you managed to continue with this program? Have you done any more interval walks?

Thanks for posting the research @TAB - that is so interesting.

@perspective I really crave getting my heart rate up too! It makes me feel alive as well. I feel like I need physical barriers though, like hills. I do tend to dawdle. And I forget about walking briskly after a little while.

Maybe going out for a walk with the specific intention of an interval walk and taking a timer might work.

Good luck with all your walking this week everyone!

Hi @sol_87

I haven’t done any more walks as it has been terrible weather the last few days. I have been doing resistance band workouts instead. Might try and do an interval walk tomorrow.

Hey @Oaktree

That sounds good. Are you in Melbourne? It has been awful here!

I haven't been out for a walk yet! I wanted to get out, but I also needed to work.

Did you make it out?

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi @sol_87

No I haven’t had a chance to go walking yet. I had a covid vaccination this morning and now I am at the movies with my support worker.

I will try and get out this arvo. The weather is a bit nicer today.

I am in Western Australia.
