So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Hey @sol_87
The thing stopping me from walking is just a lack of motivation I’m afraid. I used to go every day but somehow I have fallen out of the habit. I need to try harder.

Hey @Oaktree
I know what you mean about lack of motivation. The thing that I like most about walking is that sometimes it is necessary (for getting food, getting to public transport etc) and this helps me because I literally have to get up and get walking to meet my basic needs.
I am lucky though because my food shops are about 20 minutes or less walk away. So, it makes sense. Do you live in a walkable suburb?
Cheers, Sol

Re: Walking for Wellness
@Oaktree@Delicatessen@TAB today I went back to the little nature reserve I walked in last week and discovered the heathy woodland section. Nice to see some wildflowers, and some fungi that had come up after the autumn rain. Walking there was good for the soul.

Hi @sol_87
My suburb is not bad for walking. Just down the hill is an oval surrounded by large trees. There is another park a bit further away where I often walk as it has a bunch of pokestops for pokemon go!
The shops are not too far away and I can easily walk to them but I live on a bit of a hill so that wears me out on the way home

Re: Walking for Wellness
That sounds nice @Oaktree - fun! On the last house sit I did there were hills around too. I did find it good to get my heart rate up - it felt healthy. But yes, depends on the hill!

Re: Walking for Wellness
It was good to get out and get some exercise. Nearly 4000 steps in that walk, so that is something I guess. I didn't feel like I really got my heart rate up (there is only one small hill on the walk), but I did notice that I got a sweat up, so that is better than nothing.
Now, I am back at my desk, wishing that I had something else to do with my working day. I don't feel all that inclined to work on a computer this afternoon. I want to be up, and active (and hanging out with people). Much like I do at the cafe I work at occasionally.
So, maybe I just need a little hospitality job to add to my routine. It deserves some consideration I think.

It’s great that you went for a walk even without hills.
Maybe a job at a cafe would be right up your alley. It would certainly be a great way to get some social interaction regularly.
You will have to let me know if you pursue it.

Had a wonderful walk by the river today. @hanami@Dimity@sol_87@Oaktree@Delicatessen
The birdsong was good and my son and his son also sang. Many good things. I also loved that we continued even tho there was a little drizzle ... rain or shine ... the show must go on ... lol
