Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

@Delicatessen

Don’t let one person’s opinion get to you. They are obviously elite’ist!

As my husband would say - what other people think of you is none of your business!

What I would say is that giving other people headspace steals your joy.

Just do you. Go out and enjoy your walking whether you choose to do it solo or in a group. And go at your own pace, it’s not a race! It’s all about getting outside, enjoying nature and getting some exercise.

I am proud of you and your efforts and I hope that this one bad experience doesn’t make you give up.

I am sorry that I couldn’t respond earlier to support you but I have been busy all day.

Sending you good vibes!

@Delicatessen

I am glad it helped.

In your post you sounded so down.

I think it was just an unfortunate experience. Don’t let it get to you.

Just move on and try and bounce back.

You have got this!

@Delicatessen

How soon is your overseas trip?

That sounds so exciting.

If I was fitter and had money I would do El Camino in France and Spain.

My goal is to one day do an end to end on the Bibbulman track. In the past I completed 3 weeks on the Bibbulman- Kalamunda to Collie

@Delicatessen I'm glad you've found support here I'm sorry if you felt bullied, rejected and shamed by unkind individuals when you had the encouragement and support of the leader. It sounds as though you actually did very well over a challenging course. Don't let it put you off group walking. It might take a few tries to get acquainted with how they grade walks, or find and team up with people with similar abilities and expectations.

Last week I explored some local remnant woodland. The first nature walk I'd done in a very long time. I'll have to go back - and visit other nature reserves - it was restorative.

I'll look forward to hearing about your trip.

Take care @Delicatessen

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hello all!

I am not sure who I should @ but I just wanted to join the conversation and say that I love walking too. A few weeks ago I was house-sitting two dogs in a suburb a bit north of me, and there were hills in their neighbourhood. It felt so good to get my heart rate up and to come home feeling like I really got some exercise.

I am trying to replicate the experience in my own suburb but we don't have many hills, unfortunately.

I am trying to get my number of steps up over the day too, and I find this a big motivator.

It sounds like you guys are talking about walks as in nature hikes?

Good luck on your trip @Delicatessen ! When do you head off?

I love the idea of it becoming so part of my routine, that I don't have to make a choice to do it each day. It certainly lifted my mood a lot this morning!

Cheers,
Sol

Hi @sol_87

Welcome to our little walking community.

Walking each day is great for your mental health and it doesn’t matter where you do it. Just get outside, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy yourself. I really need to get back into the habit i

of daily walking!

Thanks so much for posting and don’t be a stranger. The more walkers here the merrier.

Thanks @Oaktree

I appreciate your welcome. And yes, walking is great.
What has been stopping you from doing it as much lately?

I am excited about being part of a walker's community!

All the best!
