Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Thanks @TAB I just keep pushing myself. My willpower is strong. I noticed when I bend over to pick up something its no longer an issue. Picking up things off the ground used to be a strain.

Yes you have to try and get the plantar fascitis fixed. There are so many things you can use to fix it. I've seen them on facebook in my newsfeed. I don't know how effective they are.

I know mitochondria are affected on my med, will have to do something about it.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Well done @Former-Member @TAB .

@Former-Member I've dropped 2 dress sizes on waist & hips but am still much the same up top. Some of your resistance band exercises look a bit tricky and you'd need a variety of bands (and I don't really like floor work). I'm doing the British Heart Foundation ones at https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/activity/resistance-bands . They're pretty quick to do, maybe I should be doing more. My dietician noticed the difference when I stopped doing them. I'm not sure if my gp will give me another health care plan for the dietician or if it was a once-off. I normalised my blood sugars but need to build muscle mass.

Aww @TAB don't give up... you did say strapping helped... it's a process and even when you're doing the right things the body has to heal.

It's hot here too.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hello @Dimity yes the weight is going down. I am having problems with blood sugar. Got it down to 6.2 the other day. I will check out the resistance band exercise link you suggested. I just pick a bunch of them to do, not the entire list off my link I gave you. Muscle mass is a problem for me. I have to see a podiatrist soon spoke with them on the phone and its $68 co-payment. As for dietician I hardly eat any food. I don't know what you do Dimity re: dietician. With podiatrist I am only allowed 5 visits a year. Just ask the doctor who drew up your care plan. You may be entitled to more visits as its a new year maybe? I do resistance bands morning and night. Will check out your link. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Re: Walking for Wellness

I think TAB just wants a break from thinking for a while @Dimity. He will pick up again. He usually does. You should see how he goes once he gets going. He really can walk quite a lot. He will be allright. He's just been a bit discouraged with his thyroid operation and foot/knee problems and stuff with Centrelink.

Thanks for sending the resistance band stretches. I think its easier to follow than the sets I saw on my list. I wanted more exercises but didn't want to trawl through a stack of them. I will follow the list you gave me in addition to the ones I'm allready doing 🙂 Thanks Dimity ❤️

Re: Walking for Wellness

Glad you can see a difference in blood sugars @Former-Member , 6.2 must be an improvement. I find the BHF exercises doable as a set and can double the band for some now.

I'm a TAB fan too.

Must get onto some chores.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi @Dimity @TAB @Oaktree

Had another walk yesterday in a park with a major bush component. Very peaceful walking alone as is generally the case. I did my best time per kilometre ever!

I was wrapped to meet a fellow walker while on my travels. He was around 80 years of age and moved very determinedly and slowly…it was wonderful to see him out and about. It reminded me that the great outdoors is absolutely for everyone. Strangely he was most curious about what I was getting up to, but I thought he was a delightful personality and was quietly curious about him!

I think it’s great that so many of you seem to be poking your heads out (or trying to) as part of the new year vibe.

Enjoy!,

Hi @Dimity@TAB

I’ve come to the realisation that the only way to tidy my fridge is to eat. The seriousness of the situation became evident when a friend gave me 6 small bags of chocolate…and finding room for them was a serious undertaking. I’ve also resolved not cook anything new for a while.

And then I saw Kensington pride mangoes on special…
