Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi Everyone. I went walking at a large (understatement) park last weekend. Really varied and lovely terrain. Reminded me to make sure to try somewhere new every now and again. Can’t wait to go back.

I’ve got a number of walks planned over the break. Can’t wait!

Merry Christmas all!!

Hello @Delicatessen @Oaktree @TAB @Former-Member @Captain24 et al

Hope you're still walking in the warmer weather. I'm starting to think I should walk in the morning rather than late afternoon, when it's still hot. I have to walk in daylight.

Chalk it up, I've done my resistance bands exercises 3 days in a row.

Are you still strapping your foot @TAB ? How is it?

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi guys, I have a new year’s resolution to get healthier so since the 2nd of January I have walked every day. On the really hot days I have been going early in the morning before it gets too hot! Today I walked a bit further so I was quite proud of myself. I am not breaking any speed records but I am going for distance. I play Pokémon Go on my walks so that slows me down a bit but it’s more fun and it distracts me from the exercise.

Re: Walking for Wellness

That's awesome @Oaktree , well done. I'm not a morning person so it would take a lot for me to make an early start.

Well Done @Oaktree doesn't really matter if it's quick. Walking can be more about time

Re: Walking for Wellness

@TAB yes that's expensive. I used to have a one piece tubular heel/ankle support from the chemist. Worked for me, I also used one after I sprained my ankle - much simpler than trying to copy the gp's fancy bandage.

Ok i will look into it @Dimity i have light tubular bandages used for knees the can give some relief when not walking

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hello @Dimity @Oaktree @TAB I'm still walking with my nordic poles. Have dropped a dress size. Weight has not gone down on scales but made up for it in inches I would think. Its quite hot today in Melbourne. I went out at 9:00am but still the heat is oppressive. Walked 20 minutes which is all I can manage but am getting fitter. Must have been walking for weeks on end. Did resistance bands exercises this morning after breakfast and more tonight. Am getting stronger. Trying to build muscle even though I'm on a rotten med which converts everything to fat not muscle. These are the resistance band exercises I do:

Re: Walking for Wellness

well done @Former-Member inches beats scales , just means muscle is heavier than fat, once have muscle, resting metabolism increases etc etc

did 20 mins this walk morning, was more like a chore, getting used to inserts in shoes. will get it back to where I was a few months ago somehow lol
