Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

@TAB I can't remember about your foot, but you might have told me. I knew about your thyroid but didn't know when you were having surgery and I knew about your inheritance. How did your operation? What is life like in Perth? What is Perth like compared to the Gold Coast? I worked tonight. And it was busy.

I recently had covid from going on an oversea cruise and still feeling fatigued. But bit by bit I am getting better. I have tomorrow off work, and I think I will go to the beach. And also, I have to do homework for my day program. I attend every Tuesday- I started that almost two weeks ago.

Re: Walking for Wellness

@oceangirl foot started june maybe could manage it and it went away now barely walk unless I have to . Could be plantar fasciitis. Will make appt tomorrow. Operation went ok. Still recovering but not same as first 2 weeks. Could have lost my voice. Were complications during operation but it turned out okay.
I don't really go out, so couldn't say re Perth. Only been to places had to go like work briefly, consulate for aunts Will, local Westfield etc.

i dont mind the climate but way colder for longer and rained for months when got here in july

thats good with your work.

Re: Walking for Wellness

@TAB I remember now. Glad your operation is over and sorry to hear you had complications. Do you have any follow up appointment re thyroid? I thought Perth might cooler than Qld, but you have some hotter days in summer.

Yes, it is for MH. I have to do my homework tomorrow. Next week I will try to do my homework each day. The program is good, and its been helpful thus far. A new perspective and makes sense to me.

do you have much on this week? I'm feeling sleepy, I am off to bed. Night Tab

Hey @Dimity yes, the nordic walking is pretty cool. I am able to use the poles without any difficulty. You get an upper and lower body workout. You can buy big nordic exercise machines but I'm happy just using poles. They are fun to use. My body is changing shape. Don't know whether its due to the diabetes med or earthing every day. If you earth using conductive materials it speeds up metabolism. I have an "earthing mat" that I put my bare feet on at my desk. Have gone down a dress size or more allready.

Re: Walking for Wellness

I guess you'd need to get into a rhythm with the poles @Former-Member . Re body shape I've lost cm from my middle. It's the visceral fat that's the worst with diabetes/diabetes risk.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Yes my diet has been reasonably good in the past but the psych med I'm on piled on the weight. I'm on a diabetes med now. So you have lost some weight @Dimity? - that is good. I hope to lose more. Haven't been able to do it in the past no matter how much I walked. I presume its the diabetes med but I'm earthed all night and most of the day. Earthing accounts for weightloss from the research I've read. Its a passive way to lose weight

Re: Walking for Wellness

@TAB All good. Hope you don't have any long term affects from the operation and follow up tests are good too. I have course/program tomorrow but have to do something prior to going. What type of foot pain do you have? I have planter fasciitis; I've had for quite some time now. Perth sounds nice. I have to be up early tomorrow.

Re: Walking for Wellness

umm, well depends what was happening with thyroid then what effect if any removing half that was growing has @oceangirl finger crossed , get tired and low BP sometimes and sleep most of day , not for a while though. um getting tests done again in 2 weeks time as were done too early before by mistake.

was too close to operation so false reading highly possible as likely still showing pre surgery levels. people who got me to do that werent across it.

yes, I think it is plantar fascitis its like what's next. physio today was confident of fixing it, just said its a process and could take a while. got given exercises to do and got foot strapped, go back friday to see what if any effect that had then take things from there.

Okay, sounds busy. hope your classes go away.
