Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

The cat bumped me and I posted too soon.

Hello @Oaktree @hanami @RedHorse @TAB @Captain24 how's the walking? I've been doing more incidental walking rather than my usual circuits. It feels like less effort so maybe I'm not achieving as much.

Re: Walking for Wellness

  • A week is good @TAB especially if your knees aren't 100%. What step things have you got? A mobile phone app?

Re: Walking for Wellness

@Dimity Ive got Steps app , I downloaded 2 at same time but other one wanted $ I forgot about one still , turns out it was on and working

3D Trisport belt pedometer

which was recommended on internet.
they are both optimistic mostly on inclines and ups and downs.but I can work around that. Pretty spot on on flatter surfaces

Re: Walking for Wellness

Does the csiro plan set goals for you @TAB ? The diabetes Victoria program I'm on recommends times rather than steps or distance. 1/2 hour brisk walk.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Yeah I do times normally @Dimity there is an exercise plan but no mention of steps . Although you can enter steps on daily record. Its free info for them I think

Re: Walking for Wellness

@TAB I did daily step counts when I did a corporate challenge once. I guess it could be good to see if you're improving. I think Fitbits etc also do heart rate.

Yes @Dimity belt step counter was $60 ish , fitbit starts at $180-200

Re: Walking for Wellness

Today I did a lot of walking. It was the first day of One Foot Forward for The Black Dog Institute. Basically I have a goal of how many kilometres to walk during the month of October and I fundraise to support Black Dog. This is the third year I have taken part. I am glad to be able to raise awareness around mental health issues. I have been posting on my personal Facebook page. Looking forward to more walking tomorrow. I have to get a bit ahead as I am going away for two days for hubby and my anniversary. I plan on spending those two days in a spa bath, so no walking probably.
