Welcome and getting started

Exhausted by anxiety

Exhausted by anxiety

I needed to get my thoughts out somehow, and so found this site. It's so crap, that myself and so many others still don't feel comfortable talking about how we are feeling. For fear of being judged or not understood.

I am exhausted from feeling fearful , paranoid , panicked, nervous and stressed. I'm 35, and and seem to feel this way almost all of the time. My self esteem is so incredibly low , I would say at this point it's non existent. Every word that comes out of my mouth I reflect on, cringe and feel awful about what I've said , convinced that everyone thinks, or in my mind "knows" that I'm an idiot. I have started a new job and although I've been in the industry for ten years I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Burnt out. Scared of people. Feel I have absolutely nothing to contribute , feel that everyone is talking about me and don't want me there. I'm working with a new psychologist. It's new and I'm learning but I have seen so many and starting to think I can't change. I just can't shake the constant negative thoughts, can't relax, can't find a moment in life I can genuinely enjoy. I'm fed up with feeling so scared all the time for no real reason. Mental health problems are so real. I've tried to hide it in my adult life though because when I've exposed it, I have only felt judged and felt weak. I'm so scattered all the time I can sit there and watch a show for an hour , read a few pages of a book and then realize I have no idea what's happened or what it was all about. My memory is shot. I just can't seem to retain anything but this damn fear. I'm interested to hear if others have this problem. Thanks for reading 🌸

Re: Exhausted by anxiety

Hello Erin86,

Thank you for replying with the information regarding treatment so far and the difficulties that you have had in applying the DBT material in practice in everyday life

Erin I would like us to go to a new thread that will be for you since this thread was initiated by Peta1.

I have copied all the posts and responses for you over to "Anxious and Exhausted". I hope that we have established a good connection now for you to be able to continue on your own thread. I hope Peta1 will understand and we can now give her thread back.

Look forward to speaking with you on your "Anxious and Exhausted" thread. This note will guide people to your thread.

Cheers, HenryX

@Peta1

Hello Peta1

The note that I have written to guide Erin86 to a separate thread for him, I hope explains the reason for our posts on your thread.

I very much hope that we will be able to talk with you more fully about the issues that you are facing.

Thank you for helping with the discussion with Erin.

With Best Wishes

HenryX

Thankyou HenryX. I really appreciate your post. I've read it about ten times and it is helpful. I hope you are right regarding being able to change. I have been trying CBT for some time but haven't looked in to the other therapy you mentioned. I will check it out.

Hi @Peta1 @Erin86

Just wanted to say welcome to the forum, I read your posts, and I can relate to some of what you're going through. I'm sorry it's so hard.

I don't have any words of wisdom right now, as I'm in the thick of things myself, but if you get the chance check out Acceptance Commitment THerapy (ACT). THere's a lot written on it, but the most accessible things I found were The Happiness Trap, and Living with IT. Both are illustrated, but pitched at adults. They helped me a lot with anxiety.

Hi @HenryX @LostAngel always good to see you about.

@Peta1

Hello Peta,

Great to see your response

CBT is a therapy that I became familiar with through a book called "Feeling Good" By David Burns.

That book is available free from the website "pdfdrive.com". On that site, you will find other books on the same theme. I have found the website to be a great resource for all types of books on a variety of subjects. I hope that you might find it useful if you are happy to research your own resources. The Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living: A Guide to ACT

is also available on the same website.

Very pleased to see you back Peta

Cheers, HenryX

@Peta1 @Erin86 @frog @LostAngel

I can understand that feeling of not being able to recall what to do in time to do it when applying the principles and techniques that are offered in various therapy programs and guides.

I do believe that, like any method that we use from our heads, it is a matter of practice.

When talking with others about this issue of practice, we have discussed the idea that it is sometimes difficult to ask someone else to help. However, it has been agreed that people who are close to us may actually feel it to be a compliment that they are asked to assist. In this way, they are being invited closer into our special space. I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

Cheers, HenryX
