My daughter attempted suicide

My daughter attempted suicide

I have just returned from my local hospital after watching my daughter having four seizures and nearly losing her life due to taking too many anti depressants. We found out that she had been treated abusively by her boyfriend, recently had a miscarriage and he left her for dead. It pushed her over the edge.
The doctors told us it's a miracle she is alive due to the huge amount of drugs she took. Each seizure she went blue and frothed of the mouth. Traumatising to watch to say the least - I really thought I lost her. The doctors have detained (scheduled) her under the mental health ward of the hospital under the mental health act. Now hopefully it will give her the time and proper help to heal. The staff, nurses and doctors have been wonderful and compassionate.
My daughter hugged me as I left this evening saying sorry for what she put me through.
I would like to say to anyone who suffers low self esteem and is in a abusive relationship to never put up with it. You deserve better and no one is worth harming yourself over.
I think I am still in shock but must pull myself together to support my daughter through this. A mammoth task. Any moral support right now or advice from anyone else who has suffered similarly or not would be appreciated. If I could have but one wish in my life right now it would be to see my daughter heal, whole within herself, happy and loved. That's all I want in this life now.

Re: My daughter attempted suicide

Hi @Former-Member. Sahara's comment about your daughter believing herself to love this guy also tells me that she still believes she's the only one who 'understands' and can help him. Perhaps her drinking also means to her, that drinking combined with AD's also means she believes she knows exactly how he feels. Have you been able to contact his family to ask for their assistance. You may not get any help, but you may. If you can persuade your daughter to start seeing a psychologist who deal directly with her type of relationship problems that would be a great benefit. Perhaps your Dr might be able to point you in the right direction. It's a sort of special case, not the usual case of depression coupled with anxiety.

Re: My daughter attempted suicide

@Former-Member I just wanted to say how truly sad it is that you find yourself in this situation that you have no control in. I can only imagine how ripped apart you must be feeling. I felt devastated reading your last post. I hope with all my being your daughter lands on her feet. I just want to reiterate that you need to look after yourself and be as strong as you can for the ride she will take you on. There are so many survivors on here I hope you can find the faith that she can be too. Thinking of you and sending hugs and best wishes for strength 💜💐

PS I did like some of @Sahara ideas too.

Hi @Former-Member,

I've only just seen this thread now. How is your daughter progressing? How are you coping with things?

Re: My daughter attempted suicide

Hello dear @GingerWhinger

Outwardly strong but inwardly numb and joyless. Still functioning - going to bingo weekly, my volunteer work, cleaning and sewing. So I am being strong and coping in that sense for now, but who knows how I will go tomorrow. That's how it is here now as my daughter could attempt any time again. We re supporting her the best we can, loving her but still encouraging her to be self displayed (cleaning up after herself, try and keep a routine etc)as this is good for her mental health. But the strain on us is overwhelming.

I saw my friend today at bingo who suffers depression herself. She straight away and said that she doesn't know how I am sane and I am doing well. I am surprised that I have t gone under - my husband is also looking at having more surgery which does frighten me, not only because of the risks, as I am worried how I will cope with both scenarios. I don't have any support other than my husband. It's hard, really hard.

How are you going my friend? You do sound better. I was just thinking back to about a year ago when you were having so much fun on social outings and dining out - I hope you can enjoy all that again soon. Life is tragic for some like me but I certainly don't like seeing it with others. There is enough despair in the world. Get well soon. Love you my friend xxxx

Hi @Former-Member

It warmed my heart to read your reply - thank you for caring. You are a good person worth your weight in gold, please never forget that when feeling low. If we had lost you the world would of been worse off for it. We need you and people like you. Thank you for fighting.

I live in hope my daughter's self esteem and self discipline strengthens as this will save her. We are trying all we can to enable this but it's long suffering, at times torture, to sit, wait and watch. I try and keep busy. One day at a time. Sending warm hugs xxxx ❤️
