Something’s not right

annoying annoying

annoying annoying

I was at work earlier today and it was quiet in the shop...

there was one customer an old senior bloke probably over 60...

he said that it was quiet and 'I bet you are enjoying this' or something like that

......the way he said it didn't sound very encouraging and I was annoyed but I let it

'go through to the keeper'....

I'm not sure why he said it ...was he trying to tell me something?

I can't understand why people need to make these strange comments when they are

at the counter...so what if it is quiet? I am sure he has experienced it before ..

And if it is quiet isn't that a good thing we should be grateful for?

Some people are strange ..they can't expect it to be busy all the time - how are

we going to breathe?

@jamesle2015 Hey Jamsie2015 that was the old blokes way of making conversation. I can assure you that he meant no harm. That is just what old blokes do. I agree with you that people are strange. 🙂 peax

You never know what kind of day someone is having. It pays to be nice. You never know, you could be the one difference in their day. Unless a person is absolutely being not nice in some way to you, then hey fair game. I feel he was being quite nice in his approach towards you. He was considering you and how busy you may have been over the christmas period and his remark meant that it must be nice to just have a bit of a break from the madness and the rush. Yes, trying to make a connection with you.

Re: annoying annoying

@jamesle2015 I am sure the old bloke comment was not intended to have a go at you, that just his way, he might been thinking it was nice that you were not under the pump and you shift was a relaxing and yes let that comment go through to the keeper, remember you are in control of how you react to his comment, sweat the big stuff, not the little stuff.

Warm Regards

@haystacks @Powderfinger @Bunniekins maybe it was the tone of his voice and the way he said it.....it would have been better if he had explained it a bit more e.g. he could have said something like 'you must be relieved now that the Christmas rush is over' or something like that

I am on leave from work for another week - got a couple of public holidays so I took a few days off....

I have trouble separating myself mentally form work - as I have been there for

years - retail

I can see the managers there, the customers the counter position ....

Sometimes I recall negative interactions I have had with managers in the past...

I reckon a lot of retail workers will have this problem

Can anyone else relate?

Re: annoying annoying

@haystacks @Powderfinger @Bunniekins @Maggie

you may be thinking - 'why doesn't he get another job'?

It will be hard for me due to the agoraphobia I would have to find a job that is not too far from my place....

It would have to be in a shop - so retail - as I can't do anything else

The other problem is times are hard and it is highly unlikely anyone will be willing to employ someone of my age - I'm not in my 20s anymore 🙂

I'm not one of the creative people that can do something business or anything like that

so this is a big problem....

@jamesle2015 Hey jamesie2015 wait till you hit your 50s 😮 ! then nobody wants to know ... I understand where you are coming from. It is harddealing with people. When I left school I was a receptionist. The only way I could cope was to smoke non stop Could you re train into something that really floats your boat.

@jamesle2015

I worked in retail for a few years. I worked in different places and in different positions, but always directly with customers. any industry with customer service being the main focus is hard. I will not do it ever again. I have also worked behind the secenes and I prefer that more.

Seperating yourself mentally can be hard, but I will also say seperating yourself mentally from any job comes with the territory of work/life balance.

I think if you trust and feel good with the manager you have now or at least one of them, perhaps discuss this issue with them?

I have no real advice to give that I feel would be helpful. I hope that the issue can sort itself out soon for you.

There's nothing anyone can do about this ....it is my problem

May be partly due to my introverted personality....

Some people may be able to 'switch' off from work much more easily

Re: annoying annoying

Being introverted makes a big difference and perhaps time for a carreer change that is more suited to your personality @jamesle2015
