Life after hospital

Life after hospital

Hi @NikNik@CherryBomb @Decadian@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@Silenus and everyone else I have forgotten (i am sorry my memory is not good)

Life after hospital???

I really don't know. I was in hospital for 3 weeks and I did hibernate for the first 3 days sleeping most of that time. I had a change of meds which took a while to work out the strength. Then my BP was doing weird things and they changed those meds as well. I was totally exhausted and I don't know if I will ever get better.

I did eventually join in socially and do groups but unfortunately the groups triggered a lot of memories of my childhood abuse,, my mum and how she has treated me, so I used to walk out in tears. I seemed to be crying and sleeping quite a lot. Self harming was on my mind a lot and i was 'looked after' really well by the staff. Often they would pop in my room and just chat but at times all i wanted to do was cry and sleep.

My discharge yesterday was emotional, i didn't want to leave my safe place, my peace and quiet. I tried the night before something terrible and wrote a note to one of the night staff who sat down with me in my room and he told me I don't believe in myself enough that i am strong but i don't see it.

I saw so many people from all walks of life suffering in silence. I came home on the weekends and couldn't even look at the house as it was untidy or not how i would keep it. so after a bit of cleaning i decided no i wanted to go back to 'my safe home'.

Today i had to see my GP and was falling asleep, i told him i am not sure if it's the meds and he said i am still exhausted.

I just feel like crying. Having horrible nightmares at the hospital was so bad that i was too scared to close my eyes, but i had the best male night staff who sat with me and made me a hot milo and gave me some meds to calm down and go off to sleep.

I am so axious about work tomorrow, but i have no money, no sick leave and no annual leave. tried centrelink but they are useless as my hubby earns just over the threshold. so on top of finances and my health i feel i am still not the best.

I wasn't gooing to come on here so soon but i needed to talk to someone as i am home alone. the only good thing that kept me going was knitting.

God i wish i could jusst go away, need to stop these negative thoughts.

Anyway i just wanted to say hi, i am still here and i am sorry if i have forgotten someone's name - i think my exhuastion and meds are affecting my concentration and memory.

I really don't kow how i will cope tomorrow.

i am so scared and anxious.

You were all probably hoping for me to be jumping up and down with glee - if only.

ps. another thing we are signing papers to sell our home this week; that's one good thing i suppose, just the packing is overwhelming.

Hi @BlueBay

I didn't come in yesterday - I am really tired recovering from sinusitis and I didn't wake up until lunchtime and then my domestic help was here and I had to have a nap to recover from waking up so late and then it was time to go to bed - so I missed you yesterday

So - I have read your notes here from yesterday and it sounds as if you had a roller-coaster day - Big Dipper - it must be a nightmare having such sharp mood swings. I used to suffer violent grief swings like that after my son died and so I used to write a journal and noticed it took very little to set me off - I was wrongly dxd with BPD - but I guess none of us really know what the others are feeling - and it must be distressing to find you are suddening in the middle of a storm and don't know how to get out of it

You seem to be doing better though - stepping stone to stepping stone - I really like that -

I am glad your GP has encouraged you to keep taking your medication - do you have blood tests to see if you are taking the right amount of that particular medication - I did

Anyway - about cooking - I have just about forgotten how to cook - eating salads for years - and I have three meals a week delivered now and I find they nearly always have caulliflour - that has to be about the worst thing anyone can put on my plate - but I can take the meal out of the container and leave off the cauliflour and zap the rest

I have not made cookies for years - I used to make them every week but I found I was eating them all in a couple of days and stopped that - and I used to make a dessert with jelly and instant pudding but I ate all of those too fast too - so I stopped

I haven't been eating much lately - so I had better get myself eating properly again - the thought of cooking for a family - I used to enjoy it actually - though I have been told that some of the meals I cooked were terrible - I liked them - but those years passed so quickly

I am thinking of you - I can't remember what I did to stop the mood swings - I have been thinking but apart from writing I have no idea- but if it helps - I do remember sitting in the middle of a pile a damp tissues feeling so bleak and lost - I can only imagine how you might feel - but I care

Re: Life after hospital

@Former-Member thank you for thinking of me. I'm doing a bit better today. At the moment I am trying to sort some things out in my head - as I had bad news from a friend. And although I can respond to others on this site and try to help them through a hard time - this is tougher for me - as it's someone I have cared for for a long time. Love has seemed to make this process a lot harder than I imagined. But I had a debrief with my best friend last night & she helped me to see why I'm finding this so hard.
At least now - I know exactly what I need to ask my psychologist tomorrow. And he can help me sort out how to help my old friend while also protecting my heart and my mental health.
Sorry - this message is very vague.
But I am more hopeful that I can help my friend and myself at the same time.

Hi @utopia

Glad to read that you are feeling a bit better. It's a good thing that you have people in your personal life whom you can open up to and talk to about it. Helps so much to have this type of support. It can be hard to help someone we have feelings for that may not be aware of the extent of those feelings or where a third party is involved. Just guess work at my end - but regardless I hope all works out well for you in the end and that you don't get hurt. I can understand that some matters are private - just know that I am thinking of you and hoping for a good end to this for you as you deserve the best love has to offer ❤️ Sending warm hugs xx

Re: Life after hospital

Thank you @Former-Member. Yes I'm beyond lucky to have some good people in my life. I wish everyone was as fortunate as I am.
No there is no third party. But a remembrance of my 16 year old heart being broken for the first time.

Hi sadgirl

It was so nice to just get home wasn't it? For me, there was so much fear and the whole control component just so confronting. I didn't exist the entire time I was there. Staff just did their jobs, taking bloods and vitals no consent or permission obtained. Reviews with the pdoc were very much on a tell you about it now basis. No advance notice - again I did not exist.

It got worse whilst I was there, 2 escapees meant that it turned into lock down, no one permitted outside just stuck. People got agitated, aggressive and upset and I just cried more. And I cried more - at another surprise pdoc review the delights of ECT were strongly encouraged, I was sad but I wanted to protect my mind.

Lotsa luv Bast

Re: Life after hospital

I need help!!!

I am so confused at the moment.

I had my session with my therapist this morning. He wants me to continue seeing him until November when I see my new psychologist.

I was very anxious and emotional this morning. I gave him my poem and letter i wrote for him. He read it and laughed at the funny bits. I was sitting there and started to cry. I was trying so hard to not cry and keep it in but tears just started.

I told him I'm really sad because I won't see him anymore; i told him i understand he can't help me but i am really emotional. he said i am grieving a relationship. and he told me it doesn't mean i won't see him anymore, in fact he said i can contact him next year and see him and touch base with how i am.

I feel the blame is on me; i should have done more; i am hopeless, if only i was a better person; so much negative in my head.

i told him i was going to stop my meds and he said it is my choice but he discourages me from doing so as he knows i have tried before and i was a mess.

Now i don't know what to do - do i go to the next appt in two weeks time or do i stop now altogether.

i am trying to hold on to him as my therapist for as long as i can but i know i will be a mess on the 'very last time' i have him. i told him 5 yrs is a long time and i don't know how things will go with this new one.

he told me to not be a mind reader as i don't know her and things may work out ok.

i am feeling so lost and alone, have a headache and just want to cry.

what should i do??

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @BlueBay. Decision making is always very hard when our emotions are all over the place. It must be very hard to know this morning is the last session with your therapist, however he has indicated he wants to be included in your progress. I would take that 'life jacket' he's offered until you feel it's time to move on. It's also quite natural to be apprehensive with a new therapist, you need to get used to them and they need to know you trust them. When you first started seeing this therapist, you would've experienced similar anxiety. I would keep the next apt, obviously it's important to him to know how you are feeling. Perhaps he also wishes to help you adjust to the new therapist. With your meds, I'm with your therapist. Stopping them while you're adjusting to a new therapist is not good, you were prescribed them for a specific reason, I would suggest you keep taking them till you have established a 'relationship' with your new therapist. Don't self-blame for this having the change therapists, it is not your fault. Your therapist has gone as far as he can, he's now 'handing' you over to another therapist for the next stage. When you see a Dr for something, he will often refer you to a specialist who is better equipped to sort out what the problem is. Think of your new therapist as similar, he/she is the specialist in the next stage of treatment. I get you're scared/nervous, that's natural, you've built up a repour, you will again - but it's going to take time. I think your headache could possibly be nervousness in your recovery.
