Life after hospital

Life after hospital

Hi @NikNik@CherryBomb @Decadian@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@Silenus and everyone else I have forgotten (i am sorry my memory is not good)

Life after hospital???

I really don't know. I was in hospital for 3 weeks and I did hibernate for the first 3 days sleeping most of that time. I had a change of meds which took a while to work out the strength. Then my BP was doing weird things and they changed those meds as well. I was totally exhausted and I don't know if I will ever get better.

I did eventually join in socially and do groups but unfortunately the groups triggered a lot of memories of my childhood abuse,, my mum and how she has treated me, so I used to walk out in tears. I seemed to be crying and sleeping quite a lot. Self harming was on my mind a lot and i was 'looked after' really well by the staff. Often they would pop in my room and just chat but at times all i wanted to do was cry and sleep.

My discharge yesterday was emotional, i didn't want to leave my safe place, my peace and quiet. I tried the night before something terrible and wrote a note to one of the night staff who sat down with me in my room and he told me I don't believe in myself enough that i am strong but i don't see it.

I saw so many people from all walks of life suffering in silence. I came home on the weekends and couldn't even look at the house as it was untidy or not how i would keep it. so after a bit of cleaning i decided no i wanted to go back to 'my safe home'.

Today i had to see my GP and was falling asleep, i told him i am not sure if it's the meds and he said i am still exhausted.

I just feel like crying. Having horrible nightmares at the hospital was so bad that i was too scared to close my eyes, but i had the best male night staff who sat with me and made me a hot milo and gave me some meds to calm down and go off to sleep.

I am so axious about work tomorrow, but i have no money, no sick leave and no annual leave. tried centrelink but they are useless as my hubby earns just over the threshold. so on top of finances and my health i feel i am still not the best.

I wasn't gooing to come on here so soon but i needed to talk to someone as i am home alone. the only good thing that kept me going was knitting.

God i wish i could jusst go away, need to stop these negative thoughts.

Anyway i just wanted to say hi, i am still here and i am sorry if i have forgotten someone's name - i think my exhuastion and meds are affecting my concentration and memory.

I really don't kow how i will cope tomorrow.

i am so scared and anxious.

You were all probably hoping for me to be jumping up and down with glee - if only.

ps. another thing we are signing papers to sell our home this week; that's one good thing i suppose, just the packing is overwhelming.

Re: Life after hospital

Hi everyone

Well I went to work yesterday and I so much didn't want to go. I kept to myself and just did my work very quietly, i was so struggling with exhaustion. Couldn't wait for 4pm, although by 2pm i was ready for a nap. By the afternoon before i left my so called friend/co-worker says to me "so how do you think you went today" and I replied 'not great, i am so exhausted' to which she replied "well i think you did really well because you didn't way one negative word"!!!!! I replied yeah but you don't know what my head is saying.

Boy was I pissed off with her. How dare she say that to me. Does she realise how hard it was for me to struggle out of bed and hurry up to get ready for work because i slept in.

Anway today i struggled again, i woke up and was crying because i was so tired. i went to work and spoke to my pharmacist who is so beautiful and caring. She told me if i felt like going home after lunch i could go. I told her i am strugglingn with exhaustion and new meds. she totally understood. i then got a phone call from my psych who had a free appt at 3pm and knew i wanted to see him. So i left work and my so called friend did not say one word to me when i left except see you next week. Not have a nice weekend, take cae, hope you feel better soon. My psych has given me tomorrow off and has increased my meds by double to see if it zonks me out tomorrow then we know its the meds.

so i am staying in bed tomorrow, sleep and knit. i am taking time out for ME and me alone. i may go for a short walk depending on how i feel with taking 2 meds. it will be a big jump in dosage but i will see how i go.

And then i don't go back till wednesday next week.

i still can't get over this so called friend, i think she is pissed off that i am having tomorrow off. well i don't care anymore.

i am also seeing a counsellor at a community support centre who will hopefully help us with either food vouchers or some ways of helping us while i am home with no pay at all. seeing her on monday.

i am so lucky to have a caring psychiatrist, GP and therapist. They are all so caring. They do give me support.

I just wish that my husband and children were supportive emotionally. but i guess it will take time.

i am so looking forward to having tomorrow off. oh i am staying in my pj's. 🙂

@BlueBay. Don't worry about what this friend / coworker says or does. You did the right thing. You left work when you needed to. Howlucky to get that 3pm aappointment today. And I know how it feels when you have good therapists working with you. It makes our struggles a bit easier.
Enjoy your walk. And enjoy your time off.
And thank you for knitting me my imaginary cyber scalf in the most beautiful earthy shades of reds oranges and browns.

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @BlueBay, well done dragging yourself to work & lasting the day. No, your colleagues don't know how hard it is for you, what'd going through your head etc, unless you tell them. But o would not tell them. Work is about work, nothing else. People get paid go home & when you leave its likely you will never see them again. Their a different kind of acquaintance. Good boundaries are important. I was to lk its my responsibility to teach people how to treat me.l, but with the being so sensitive, it gets tricky. I think she was a little condescending, so chuck a @Faith-and-Hope polite stiff smile & carry on. Are you part time? Hope you reward yourself tonight & put your feet up. It will take a while to get back into the swing of things. 3wkscmin I'm told. Anyway. Just saying his, hang in the, we your cyber pen friends care about you. 🙂

Re: Life after hospital

Hey guys
So the time I was in hospital I knitted an olive green snood, a black soft mohair scarf in silver grey and 2 knitted handbags which you use stretchy material not wool. So so easy to knit. They are in burgundy wine colour. I think I will try to sell them on Facebook.
Knitting has kept me feeling calm. It's amazing how many ladies started knitting in hospital.
Oh and right now I'm knitting an orange cotton scarf for spring. I will have to keep knitting to ease my anxiety otherwise I will be self harming.
I think bed time soon. I'm scared to start double dose of my meds tomorrow as my psych is not working. Guess I can always call the CAT team or my GP if I get too groggy.
I hope everyone is doing ok. I do think of you all. I'm sorry my concentration is not good and my memory I'm forgetting what I have to do and buy at the shops.
Hope everyone sleeps well. Xxx

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @BlueBay

As hard as it is I think you are doing well considering all things

As nasty as your co-worker is - you didn't say a negative thing and the day was really hard for you

But you did the right thing and she did not - you didn't comment on how you were feeling until she pushed you - and that is really something

I am glad you have tomorrow off

And as other people have said - you don't have to worry about the opinion of other people - they will think what they think regardless - and whatever we do or say someone is going to have a go at us

Take tomorrow easy - you have friends in here who know how tough life is for you

Re: Life after hospital

@BlueBay. Those items sound beautiful. I love burgundy. A beautiful colour. I expect you will havd many items to sell on facebook or ready to give as birthday or Christmas presents. You say it's easy. Not so much for me. I can knit a square or a scalf. Nothing complicated.
You have talent. Bonus that it helps you feel calm. Get a good nights sleep. Don't worry about tomorrow. Everything will turn out okay. Sweet dreams

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @utopia @Decadian@Faith-and-Hope@Former-Member@Former-Member

I had the worst night last night, that i am so glad to be home today.

I had hallucinations very vivid ones. And hearing people talk so clearly. I can describe it to every single detail. Boy it was scary to realise what was happening. I had to ask my daughter this morning if she spoke to my hubby when he left for work this morning and she replied no - that confirned my hallucinations.

Trouble is now - I saw my psych yesterday afternoon who wants to up my meds by double dosage (quite a big jump) to test and see if this will help with my extreme tiredness. He is not in his rooms today they are closed so no other psych there; my GP doesn't work until tonight and I can't call my therapist because he can't make that decision about my meds.

So i called the CAT team and this really nice guy called back and suggested if i have someone home with me to take the dosage my psych recommended and if i am feeling not safe or really bad to call him back.

It's so scary, i have my son home for a few more hours so i may take it and see what happens.

I don't want to go to sleep in case I have these hallucinations again.

I have actually called another psych who can get a message to my psych and they will email him but as yet he hasn't phoned me and he really wants me to start this medication this morning. what if he doesn't call me until tonight or not at all. i really hate when there is no one else to call. Thank god for the CAT team.

i don't know what to do -

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @BlueBay

Of course you don't know what to do - neither would I

If you are scared about these hallucinations (and so would I) then it is a good idea to ring the CAT team again - and it is important to take the medication as suggested by the doctor most of the time - but now - I would be asking for advice too

And as you already know - we can't help with that - but I can confirm how unsettling all of this would be

Do you feel as if you have come out of hospital too soon?

Thinking about you - I have to go out in a while but I will be watching to see how you are for now
