My Mosaic

My Mosaic

My Mosaic

I like mosaic art, I’ve never actually done any, but it intrigued me. Made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of stone, glass and ceramic. If you look at it close up it doesn’t really look like anything special, if anything it looks like a mess. But if you take a step back and view the whole picture- it’s a master piece. I guess it’s kind of like life. So many tiny parts, some messy if we look just at the one part. Some day i guess I’d hope that the mess of my life will at some point look half decent.

So here is part of my mosaic, bits and pieces kept tidy together 🙂

tagging you @Emelia8 cause you asked 🙂

Re: My Mosaic

@Captain24 I think we are very similar people. I’m mostly ok just me and my daughter and the pets. But I do feel bad for my daughter, that she doesn’t have many social opportunities outside of school. We do attend church, she has lovely friends there, and I have ‘friends’ there. But outside of attending church I don’t hear from people. As I mentioned in my previous post, I use to chase after people, but I got tired of doing the chasing. Maybe if I want it bad enough I should start again. But do I?

Do you work @Captain24 ? Do you have work mates?

Re: My Mosaic

Thanks @tyme I certainly don’t love myself.... don’t even like myself, so that’s hard.

I resonated with some of the things that you said in reply to the post that got me thinking about this. When I do go out I enjoy it, but the stress of it. The anxiety. Its real.

My case manager referred me to a social support service. They have activities on every day of the week including weekends. I’ve been once to a coffee club. I’ve found it really hard to engage with the service. Part of the service is that they do daily.... DAILY check in calls. I don’t need people calling me every day to see if I’m ok. I’ve ignored calls from my key worker for weeks now and cause of that we are having a meeting tomorrow. That’s a side note. But getting to these activities has been hard. I have so many appointments during the week, the one or maybe 2.... very rarely 2, days that I have nothing on, I just want to have a day at home.... like today. With my DBT and sensory program finishing.... and once I get back from our trip, maybe then I can attend. That’s the plan to discuss with my KW tomorrow.

Anyways I’m just rambling.

I actually had a..... distressing dream last night that involved an old friend. One that I put a lot of time and energy into and then it’s like she just disappeared. It does hurt. I do grieve.

Anyways I’ll stop now.

thanks again @tyme

Re: My Mosaic

@Bow we do sound similar

Yes I do work and have a couple of work mates but not many but I only see them at work. I’m the quiet withdrawn one in the corner! It’s my own fault really as a have a massive wall that I struggle to let people through. I get scared that if I let them in they will see the real me and run a mile and I’d get hurt again.

I get the chasing as I have one person that I’ll occasionally message but we are on opposite shifts. So when I’m on days off she is at work. There was a couple of weeks where her roster changed and I tried for a catch up but she was always busy. So I’ve given up trying as I took it personally that she didn’t want to see me.

The church I occasionally go to is really structured and once it’s finished everyone just leaves so there isn’t an option there to find friends.

If you want it bad enough you could try. Maybe there is someone out there that understands you want your own space but would enjoy the occasional catch-up.
I just don’t know where to start looking.

Re: My Mosaic

I get the not liking yourself @Bow. I actually hate who I am. I always think if I hate myself and don’t want to be around me why would anyone else.

Re: My Mosaic

@Captain24 Oh that’s really sad that the church you go to doesn’t allow for fellowship! My church is really big on fellowship, people hang around for ages afterwards, we have coffee/tea/food. The kids run around together. I find it a bit awkward though and often leave quickly, especially in bad days!

i had some good work mates when I was working. We did things outside of work too. But people move on. Don’t think anyone even works there anymore.

the wall. I soooo relate to this. I’m gonna post something I wrote about my wall ages ago. Think you might get it… it’s long, so I apologise!

I noticed my wall today, I am not sure when I started to build this wall, I guess when I realised that I could shut people out. It was just a way to protect me from the outside world, from being hurt. The wall has been built over many years, but I’ve been unaware of the fact that I was not only protecting myself from the world, but I was also abandoning and isolating myself from the world.

I was sick of being hurt, betrayed and defeated in life, so I continued to put up my wall. My wall was only short at first, people kept coming into my 'world', the world that I created to protect me, that’s why I frantically worked at building my wall higher and higher.

Behind it I feel safe, secure and somewhat happy. I admire my wall; I treasure many of the rocks that make up my wall. I polish them and often sit... and reflect on each of them. Anger, shame, guilt, hurt, unlovable, resentment, betrayed, defeat, destroyed, rejection, worthless, pride and self-pity

I sit and peek through the holes of my wall. I watch as people walk by... they talk.... they laugh.... But I am overlooked..... I feel alone.

I sit behind my wall, afraid to come out, afraid you’ll get to know the real me.

Behind this wall…. Beneath this mask hides the real me, lonely, and in fear.

I am frightened by all the possibilities of my flaws and weaknesses, scared that they may creep out between the cracks of my wall, scared that they will be exposed to this world. I think about it all the time, Will I look like a huge fool? Will I be laughed at? Will their laughter hurt? That is why I work so anxiously to build this wall… this mask, that I hide behind. I bring it out when in relationships with people, to hide the real me.

It helps me, protects me, and shields me.

I don’t know what it is though, I don’t know what will liberate me from myself-from my own self-built person, from the barriers, the walls that I have so painstakingly built around me- it’s all to protect me.

Long felt hurts make this wall endure. The longer I sit and nurse these hurts, the higher the wall gets and the harder it becomes to remove.

I am scared that deep down I am nothing, that I am no one, no good and worthless.

So, I continue with my desperation, with the façade of assurance from within and that of the petrified little child from within my soul.. And life becomes a front. I remain behind this wall. Behind this mask.

And yet I can never tell you about the crying inside me, behind this wall. Can never tell of my greatest hurts, my deepest fears, my greatest concerns, my triumphs and joys. I can’t tell you any of this, because I am afraid. So please listen carefully, not to what I am saying, but to what I am not saying.

I dislike this hiding…honestly. I hate this phony, superficial game. I would really like to be genuine and honest all the time, to not fear what you will think of me or what you will do, to allow the real me to show, to be spontaneous, and to be just me.

But you got to help me, you’ve got to hold out your hand. Even hold it out when it is quite clear that it is the last thing that I want. Hold it out when I seem to just push it away, when I reject your kindness and refuse your assistance. But please know I may fight back; I may strike back at you. Even if you reach out to me, to accept me, to help me and give me what I have so been longing to find, I may not know the difference, so please be patient.

Re: My Mosaic

Wow @Bow.

That was very moving and extremely accurate. This is exactly what I want people to know about me but don’t want them to know at the same time. If that makes any sense.
I am so sorry you have that wall. I know how safe it is but very hurtful at the same time.

Re: My Mosaic

thanks @NatureLover

i have my appointment with my dietician this morning, which i am really anxious about. She confirmed yesterday that we may do the meal support today since we didnt get to do it last time when she needed to cancel. Alot has happened since my last appointment and im kinda hoping that we will just run out of time to do the meal support.

Then this afternoon i have an appointment with my case manager. She has hopefully sorted out with my gp, my medication for my trip. I had a phone call with m gp earlier in the week, as i need some special authourity scripts for some of my meds so that i can get the right amount for the time that i am away. My gp wasnt keen on giving me that amount of meds and wanted some reassurance that i am ok.

We are also meeting with my keyworker from the social group program that my case manager referred me to ages ago. She literally calls me every day to check in, which was way too much for me so i have ignored her calls for weeks now... SIGH.... so she wants to meet. And i have been too busy with appointments and such to actually be engaged with the program, which i think is an issue for them, i always felt the pressure to participate, but just didnt have the time. any free days i just want to stay at home. maybe now that my DBT and sensory program is coming to an end and after i get back from out trip, maybe then i can get invovled.

anyways, its wet and cold here again today. i should get myself organised and out the door.

Re: My Mosaic

Well for anyone interested I had my dietitian appointment this morning and managed to complete the meal support with my dietitian. It was pretty confronting, but I did it. We coloured in and talked about my trip while we both had an up and go.

my dietitian was heaps happy with my progress. I’m managing 3 meals a day and have cut back on an ED behaviour that I’ve engaged in every day for over a year. My aim is to keep cutting back in the lead up to our trip. My dietitian said it would be really good if I could use the trip as a way to cut it out all together but I’m not sure if I can do that yet. Will see.

my second appointment ended up just being me and my case manager, my key worker for the social group ended up cancelling, which was actually good, cause after the intense appointment with my dietitian I didn’t really feel up to dealing with her. My case manager is pleased with my progress too.

im doing alright.

Oh @Bow

I'm so happy for you! You really are doing alright. I know how darn hard it is to change ED behaviours. I'm 52 and now and then they still creep in. I'm really really pleased that you've made good progress.
