My Mosaic

My Mosaic

My Mosaic

I like mosaic art, I’ve never actually done any, but it intrigued me. Made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of stone, glass and ceramic. If you look at it close up it doesn’t really look like anything special, if anything it looks like a mess. But if you take a step back and view the whole picture- it’s a master piece. I guess it’s kind of like life. So many tiny parts, some messy if we look just at the one part. Some day i guess I’d hope that the mess of my life will at some point look half decent.

So here is part of my mosaic, bits and pieces kept tidy together 🙂

tagging you @Emelia8 cause you asked 🙂

@Bow

Sorry, I posted my last message before I saw your last reply. I’m glad it was better news than you were expecting about your brother. It is hard to know that treatment depends on where you live. It sounds like they’re doing everything they can to help manage his pain. Keep us updated on how he goes?

Oh no @Bow . That must be so frustrating. So after you press "Post", then it's gone?

@Bow

I’m sorry your post got lost. Was it one you posted after the update on your brother? (Just want to check that me not seeing your update on him before I sent my first reply didn’t mislead you!)

Thinking of you today and wanted you to know that I care that things are hard right now.

I thought of you yesterday evening when I was listening to Gabor Maté talk and he said “I think any healing modality… needs to have compassion as the ground on which it rests. Often that’s not the case. Psychiatry, for example, is very often completely devoid of compassion… It's not about understanding what happened to this human being and being interested in the whole human being.” I thought you might at least find it validating to know that someone who’s spent a lot of time studying how to help people who are suffering recognises the same flaw in how psychiatry works that you felt so deeply yesterday. He clarified that individual psychiatrists might be compassionate, but really emphasised how necessary that compassion is. To recognise that someone is suffering, to be present with them and relate to them in it, and to offer kindness/support. It’s entirely appropriate that you’re wanting that, and to feel it deeply when it’s not there.

I want you to know that I hear you, and that you matter to me. At the same time I recognise the limits of the Forums. I don’t know if you’re still planning to reach out to your old old SW. If you do, I think that’s a great idea because it seems like she’s someone who is good at helping you feel heard, connected, and cared about. I was also wondering if Safe Haven might be an idea? I know it’s not someone you know, but thought it might be a place where you can talk to someone and have them listen? (Wanted to bring it up for you to consider but don’t want you to feel like I’m telling you what to do 💛)

Re: My Mosaic

Hey @Wintersweet

yeah it was after the one about my brother. I replied to you about what kind of response would have been helpful, which is basically anything but ignoring what I’ve just said. Like I had just told the pdoc that I have really bad SI and he didn’t even bother to get any further information from me. Is there no duty of care?? You know some time back I had some random lady from community mh call me up to check in with me. I’m not really keen on randoms and even more so when they don’t take 5 mins before calling to read a bit of my file. On this day things were not good and I actually needed some help and so I was honest when she asked if I was ok. I said no. No I’m not ok. She told me to reach out if I needed it and said goodbye. I ended up in icu later that day.

if your going to ask questions then you need to be prepared to hear the answers and respond. Even if you’re in no place to provide any real support, you should still be prepared to respond. Otherwise just don’t bother.

That’s how I see it anyways. I had the young sw on me today. She sent a text early this morning. I did not respond. I just didn’t have anything today. She called a little while later which I did not answer and then sent a text saying that if she didn’t get a response then she would do a door knock this afternoon. Urgh. She called again and I reluctantly answered. She didn’t really say much, but asked how my showering was going- I said I don’t remember when I last had one. She said ‘that’s ok’. She asked if i wanted any home visits next week? Hmmm had already organised that with my SW. sigh.

I’ve not done much today. Sat in the couch for ages just staring at the tv. Mum leaves tomorrow morning.

I haven’t contacted my old old sw yet. I don’t know why I keep putting it off. Even thinking today to contact my old one. But I feel… I don’t know like they have all alienated me. That I am an issue. A problem.

I very much relate to what you shared about compassion. And that’s it eh. It’s so important, it’s vital and at the core of what is needed in mh care, but so many lack it. That pdoc yesterday definitely. Thank you.

safe haven. I think I will go there while mum is away. The thing is, while yes I am an adult and can do what I want, if I go out mum likes to know where. Not in a controlling way, just in a caring/intrigue way? They are open Fri-mon 12-7pm. I can go Fri, mon when D is at school and sat when she is at her fathers and I don’t have to tell anyone where I’m going.

anyways, how are you? How’s your day been?
