My Mosaic

My Mosaic

My Mosaic

I like mosaic art, I’ve never actually done any, but it intrigued me. Made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of stone, glass and ceramic. If you look at it close up it doesn’t really look like anything special, if anything it looks like a mess. But if you take a step back and view the whole picture- it’s a master piece. I guess it’s kind of like life. So many tiny parts, some messy if we look just at the one part. Some day i guess I’d hope that the mess of my life will at some point look half decent.

So here is part of my mosaic, bits and pieces kept tidy together 🙂

tagging you @Emelia8 cause you asked 🙂

Re: My Mosaic

Oh wow nice bookcase @Bow ! Even the backing paper/paint of it feels like it matches the theme 😊. I see your stack of the gold-spined childrens ones at the bottom! They are familiar to me 😊.

You could be getting smoke from Vic too possibly, esp if you're in the southern suburbs. I'm only about 300km or so south-west and we're getting Vic smoke.

The 2019/2020 fires near us were concerning. And i recall in 2002 the fires where we were staying temporarily came about 100m away (we had gone to relatives for the week, when the fires came that close). I dont think i knew/realised how close the fires were until we returned and i saw the bushland opposite the housing all black and burned.

Most people get stressed by housing inspections i think. I wonder what would happen if it wasnt "cleaned up" and was just in a "lived in, but cared for" state? E.g. dont need to vacuum the floors or clean the dishes. Only need to clean the bathroom if it hasnt been done in the past few weeks, etc. Its not like these are "defects" or "damage" to property. 🤔

Thank goodness it is only once every 6-12 months! But still a big stress for those weeks. I hope it all goes smoothly for you and your mum.

Re: My Mosaic

I painted the bookcase @AlwaysMyself and stuck the wallpaper on the inside to match the theme. I’ve also got another display cabinet that I painted and that’s got all Alice in wonderland stuff in it too. Cups and teapots, empty tea tins, lots of Lego and figurines.

im about to start work on another piece of furniture for my room soon. Just a hall table type thing for my tv. Going with an emerald green colour and gold highlights.

we had bad fires back when I was still working and I had some families that I worked with out in the country who, when I was doing a visit got evacuated. It got pretty bad pretty quick and it was so close them, but thankfully not damage, but it was scary.

we’ve had such mixed experiences with real estates and house inspections. Like our last place we were in it for close to 5 yrs and they never did an inspection. The house before that was very sporadic and when they did come they’d look downstairs and not step foot upstairs. I remember some friends had it noted down in their inspection report that there was toast crumbs and coffee granules on the kitchen bench and this inspection was at 9am! They are only really suppose to make sure that the house is being looked after properly and no damage. We should not be expected to present a show home every 3 mths. That’s not how people live. Ours give a list of the minimum they expect and will look for.

Re: My Mosaic

Omg crumbs and coffee grains?! That is so over the top! Wow, i feel sorry for your friend @Bow !

Im glad the current real estate agent / landlord has a list so you can know what their expextations are - i reckon that would be a good "requirement", because it gives clarity to both sides of what is expected and there could be "defualt templates" that they modify based on the property (eg whether or not it includes gardens, pools, etc). And if it was an u reasonable expectation it is evidence that can be taken to tribunal for disputes, etc.

I love that you decorated the furtniture yourself. 😍

Emerald green is such a lovely colour - i reckon that hall table for the tv will look stunning with gold trim too. 🥰😍

I bought a chest of drawers at an op shop many years back and stripped the paint off it and then sanded it and stained it dark mahogony. But thats the only "upcycling" of furniture i have done myself. But if i needed furniture in the future i would. Most of the stuff i have is handed down from relatives, or has been from gifted money and i might buy an antique table.

Modern furniture doesnt last nearly as long as stuff made in the past. But of course the solid wood is also so much heavier to move! 😬

Re: My Mosaic

@Bow I hardly ever drink alcohol, so a book crawl sounds like a great idea!!

D and I normally do the same thing. If we go anywhere, we see what op shops or book shops are around. I love looking through them. So many treasures you can find.

That is a lot of books hon. I love the cabinet too. I think I'm right in saying that you did up the cabinet too.

Hopefully with your SW back Tues, you can have someone to unload too or at least someone that can support you more than you have now.

Been doing some gardening today. Sprayed some weeds awhile ago so been pulling them out. Also got some mulch and putting it in my garden bed. Been at it most of the day and probably got under 1/2 done at the front of the house. Big garden! Least I got my steps up!

Memories stay for a very long time. Even them really bad ones. Feel like there’s only one way to erase them

Hello @Bow,

I am so sorry you had a tough day. I was finished when you sent this, so I apologise for my delay!

What have you been up to so far this afternoon? Are things feeling a bit lighter? 🫶

Re: My Mosaic

Sometimes just surviving is enough @Bow Can be exhausting just getting from minute to minute.

It's hard, sometimes it feels too hard

Took mum up the street this morning. She seemed better today.

Going out to tea tonight with MIL and family for SIL's birthday. Not in the mood to go but have to.
