Need to vent

Need to vent

Hi everyone

I need to vent!!

I'm not coping

I'm not enjoying my new job. It's mundane, boring and triggering. For those who don't know, I was made redundant in my pharmacy job 4 days before Christmas. I then found a casual job at a supermarket. The job I do is very boring. I have far too much 'alone' time at work so my mind wanders to a lot of stuff. I asked my supervisor if i could learn the registers as thats what i would love to do. she replied that she couldn't until next year, don't know why as we are so short staffed and they need extras.

They advertise extra shifts or replacing a shift on facebook, which i really hate. but that's how they do it. i asked my supervisor if i could pick up extra shifts even though i don't know the registers. she replied yes thats fine that i would still do cleaning.

The other day a staff member posted she needed someone to do a shift. i was the first one tyo reply and accept the shift. another girl replied after me. the staff member replied back to me saying she would give that shift to the second girl as i don't know tyhe registers. I was so annoyed, angry and then upset. I feel used, and discriminated.

The problem is I am 'too scared' to confront my supervisor and ask again as i don't want the other member to get into gtrouble. so this means that i can't get any extra shifts until i learn the registers.

it is so wrong

the other issue i am having is seeing the old pharmacy customers. it's not an issue in that i see them, they love to talk. some still didn't know i had gone!!! but each time i see them and they say 'oh i am sorry to what happened to you' i get upset, hurt angry at the new owners. i miss the girls i used to work with and the job.

working for a much much bigger organisation is hard. there is so much clicks, so much politics and crap. i try to go in and do my job and go home.

but with so much time on my hands at work i start to think negatively.

i have recentyly had terrible vertigo, a 5 day migraine and today again another headache. i decided to call in sick and was spoken to so rude and short by the supervisor. it's like she doesn't believe me when i call in sick. and my anxiety is extremely high in having to ring her.

i don't have the confidence to leave and get another job. i feel i am not good enough

i am sorry to vent, i know a lot of you are struggling with your own issues. and that i should be thankful that i do have a job, as a lot of people have lost theirs.

Re: Need to vent

Hey @BlueBay, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this constant, ongoing source of stress. I think sometimes folks don't realise how stressful and debilitating it can be to job hunt. Our sense of self shouldn't depend on our employment, yet somehow in our society it does. Repeated rejections would wear anyone down; even though you can know cognitively that the rejection isn't personal, it still hurts. I encourage you to try to be kind to yourself - in fact you have my permission to treat yourself!!

We're with you all the way

Re: Need to vent

Yes - I hear you @BlueBay and @MDT

Looking for work is a full-time job and knock-backs are hard not to take personally but they do push us down.

I am not sure how Centrelink works now - I used to do something called cold-canvassing on the phone - I would ring up a few companies in my area - I live near a large industrial area - looking for office work - and list who I had rung and submit this to Centrelink each fortnight.

Those people weren't looking for employees either but I had done what Centrelink required.

So do they actually want you to answer an advertisement now? That would be harder. Walking through industrial areas looking for office work wasn't easy either - but I did that.

Life is definitely different now

Also - another thing I did was contact agencies and I often got some temporary work there - have you tried that? Would that work for you? - I understand that it might not

So - your intention to learn the registers and gather more experience is a good idea - I can hear how stressful it is working for this supermarket right now. It's tough sticking with it but you are - this speaks well for you btw -

Re: Need to vent

Well said @Owlunar re @BlueBay
I agree. I think its easier too to have a job and look for something else in the process than be unemployed and looking for jobs. This us the logic i have used for 6 months now. Despite the crap they put me through at work I think it's probably easier than having no job and looking for something. I definitely have grown to resent it here. All the garbage.
But my folks say to stay and keep SOME Form of income going. Stretch the truth if I need to in an interview. Maybe even translate the negative experiences into something. For example, putting up with politics in the workplace.. can be translated to "managing priorities" etc.

Hi @BPDSurvivor

Thanks for directing us to Anger Bias - this is extremely informative

My son was always very angry - well - a lot of the time anyway - he had so much to be angry about and there was nothing much anyone could say to convince him about it.

He took people the wrong way and it got him into trouble -

I'll post more about this later but yes - I found it helpful

Re: Need to vent

Hi @Owlunar @MDT

this afternoon i emailed a pharmacy owner where I worked a few years ago. He is a new owner who took over the pharmacy last year. But the pharmacists and workers are all still the same. They are having trouble getting reliable staff. I emailed him, intyroducing myself and giving him a run down of how much experience i have in pharmacy 10 + years. I attached my Resume for him to see and mentioned i would be happy to meet up with him. This store is about 20 mins away from home, so not too far at all. I know the store; i know the job. The reason why i left this store was becasue the previous owner cut back my hours heavily so i had no choice but leave and that's when i went back to my first pharmacy store in my own town.

we'll see what happens.

Re: Need to vent

That sounds fairly promising @BlueBay ... I really hope something comes of it. Well done for being so proactive in emailing the pharmacy owner. I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that the result is a positive one. Good luck.

It's great @BlueBay that you are so proactive!

I'm impressed and definitely so proud of you!

Although there are tough times, good things do come out of it. Just wait... and watch. 😉

Re: Need to vent

Hi everyone

I'm in pain. My back and hips. I did registers today and it was great. Not hard at all. The only hard thing was all the varieties of fruit snd veg. But after standing for 4 hours I'm wrecked. Yesterday I couldn't walk in the afternoon as my right hip was giving me grief. So painful.
