Need to vent

Need to vent

Hi everyone

I need to vent!!

I'm not coping

I'm not enjoying my new job. It's mundane, boring and triggering. For those who don't know, I was made redundant in my pharmacy job 4 days before Christmas. I then found a casual job at a supermarket. The job I do is very boring. I have far too much 'alone' time at work so my mind wanders to a lot of stuff. I asked my supervisor if i could learn the registers as thats what i would love to do. she replied that she couldn't until next year, don't know why as we are so short staffed and they need extras.

They advertise extra shifts or replacing a shift on facebook, which i really hate. but that's how they do it. i asked my supervisor if i could pick up extra shifts even though i don't know the registers. she replied yes thats fine that i would still do cleaning.

The other day a staff member posted she needed someone to do a shift. i was the first one tyo reply and accept the shift. another girl replied after me. the staff member replied back to me saying she would give that shift to the second girl as i don't know tyhe registers. I was so annoyed, angry and then upset. I feel used, and discriminated.

The problem is I am 'too scared' to confront my supervisor and ask again as i don't want the other member to get into gtrouble. so this means that i can't get any extra shifts until i learn the registers.

it is so wrong

the other issue i am having is seeing the old pharmacy customers. it's not an issue in that i see them, they love to talk. some still didn't know i had gone!!! but each time i see them and they say 'oh i am sorry to what happened to you' i get upset, hurt angry at the new owners. i miss the girls i used to work with and the job.

working for a much much bigger organisation is hard. there is so much clicks, so much politics and crap. i try to go in and do my job and go home.

but with so much time on my hands at work i start to think negatively.

i have recentyly had terrible vertigo, a 5 day migraine and today again another headache. i decided to call in sick and was spoken to so rude and short by the supervisor. it's like she doesn't believe me when i call in sick. and my anxiety is extremely high in having to ring her.

i don't have the confidence to leave and get another job. i feel i am not good enough

i am sorry to vent, i know a lot of you are struggling with your own issues. and that i should be thankful that i do have a job, as a lot of people have lost theirs.

Re: Need to vent

Just an add on to the above - I was too scared to tell you all

I was trying really hard but I feel now I've failed snd need help

Sometimes we need to listen to our own body snd mind. We are the best judge. My doctor isn't me. He has no idea how I'm feeling or how hard it is at hime. Although I have mentioned it to him many times but don't get any help.
maybe my doctor doesn't know how to help me anymore. I'm not sure.

Re: Need to vent

Hey @BlueBay ,

Thanks for your honesty. I can see where both sides are coming from.

It is true when the dr said the meds won't fix you. You may be on meds for life but they act only as a bandaid for the real pain deep down. Unless you couple meds with talking therapy, it's very hard to get out of current unhelpful thinking patterns.

I think getting off the meds for a while will allow you to see what you really need. While you are on meds, it's probably keeping you at a level where you don't need the real help for BPD. Without the meds, you may realise your real need and seek that which will support a holistic recovery.

To be honest, meds played a part in my recovery, but ultimately, it wasn't the medication that did the work, but the therapies. Meds prepared my body to be able to endure the therapy sessions. ie, gave me sleep so I could concentrate on recovery; raised my mood to a certain extent so I could get out of bed.

So in a way, I'm happy you're having a med-free time. I just also hope the very same doctor who told you you don't need medication is also finding ways to support your mental health. I wouldn't agree with taking you off meds then leaving you to sink.

Hope this makes sense,

BPDSurvivor

Re: Need to vent

Hi @BPDSurvivor

you're right reg meds. I know they just keep you balanced. But at the end of the day the I am the one that has to do the hard work. Through regular therapy and practice.

my psych won't be happy about my doctor not wanting to give me a script. I'm sure he'll write me up a script. But then I think do I just wait a bit longer and see how I go without.

my GP has been supportive but at times I feel he doesn't get it. He does not understand BPD.

Re: Need to vent

Hi @BlueBay ,

Anyone can write a script, and ultimately, it's up to you whether to take it or not. Each specialist has their own speciality.

- GPs have a general understanding (hence not BPD specific)

- Psychiatrists specialise in meds to treat mental health related conditions (hence they more readily write scripts)

- Psychologists specialise in developing strategies to promote the effective functioning of people (hence cannot provide scripts)

So really, a holistic approach is required. You know what has helped and what hasn't helped. Monitor your own mental health to determine whether meds will be helpful.

If you feel you are 'low' continuously, perhaps anti-depressants will help.

If you observe that you get 'low' because of an event/situation/circumstance, meds will not help. This is where talking therapy is key. After all, would you really want to take more meds than you need particularly if you have co-morbities that are affecting your MH?

Continue to consult your team to determine the best course of action.

I hope you find treatments for what you need. It's out there. Just need to find it.

Re: Need to vent

@BlueBay I'm so sorry. Honestly I believe financial distress and how it impacts mental health really should be talked about more, because it affects everything.

Try to be gentle with yourself, none of it is your fault - the system is unfair, especially on those of us with mental health issues. I hope you're able to reach out for some support as needed

Re: Need to vent

Hi @BlueBay

Everything is on top of you right now - I hear you - and Huffnpuff is huffing and puffing again - phew - I guess he is feeling the stress of the Crowded House too - but the cups not being in order- sheesh! I guess he can be told that is his special job and to fix it himself

Anyway - hospital won't help - you will be unhappy when you get there and unhappy when you come home - that's Transitional Ambivalence and BPD talking so try and let that go

What would you like someone to do for you? We can only listen and suggest - and you can vent all you like with no need to apologise

Take some deep breaths and find a spot where you can be alone - it is rough with so many people living in a small house
