Need to vent

Need to vent

Hi everyone

I need to vent!!

I'm not coping

I'm not enjoying my new job. It's mundane, boring and triggering. For those who don't know, I was made redundant in my pharmacy job 4 days before Christmas. I then found a casual job at a supermarket. The job I do is very boring. I have far too much 'alone' time at work so my mind wanders to a lot of stuff. I asked my supervisor if i could learn the registers as thats what i would love to do. she replied that she couldn't until next year, don't know why as we are so short staffed and they need extras.

They advertise extra shifts or replacing a shift on facebook, which i really hate. but that's how they do it. i asked my supervisor if i could pick up extra shifts even though i don't know the registers. she replied yes thats fine that i would still do cleaning.

The other day a staff member posted she needed someone to do a shift. i was the first one tyo reply and accept the shift. another girl replied after me. the staff member replied back to me saying she would give that shift to the second girl as i don't know tyhe registers. I was so annoyed, angry and then upset. I feel used, and discriminated.

The problem is I am 'too scared' to confront my supervisor and ask again as i don't want the other member to get into gtrouble. so this means that i can't get any extra shifts until i learn the registers.

it is so wrong

the other issue i am having is seeing the old pharmacy customers. it's not an issue in that i see them, they love to talk. some still didn't know i had gone!!! but each time i see them and they say 'oh i am sorry to what happened to you' i get upset, hurt angry at the new owners. i miss the girls i used to work with and the job.

working for a much much bigger organisation is hard. there is so much clicks, so much politics and crap. i try to go in and do my job and go home.

but with so much time on my hands at work i start to think negatively.

i have recentyly had terrible vertigo, a 5 day migraine and today again another headache. i decided to call in sick and was spoken to so rude and short by the supervisor. it's like she doesn't believe me when i call in sick. and my anxiety is extremely high in having to ring her.

i don't have the confidence to leave and get another job. i feel i am not good enough

i am sorry to vent, i know a lot of you are struggling with your own issues. and that i should be thankful that i do have a job, as a lot of people have lost theirs.

Hey @BlueBay, no you haven't missed the live trauma discussion- that's still to come on the 23rd of Feb (2 weeks today)! The announcement should be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it, but I'll do the same and make sure you're tagged 😊

Re: Need to vent

HI @BlueBay

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier - my shoulder has been playing up and there was a mix-up with my special medication - the mistake wasn't mine and I knew that so I just had to wait and keep ringing up until it was sorted - life just happens sometimes

I have been reading however - and I think that melt-down at work was coming and now it has it will be interesting to hear how it works out. Your supervisor sounds like the three-headed dog that guarded Hades - Cerberus - scary monster - I would not like to work for her and actually wouldn't - which is why I thought it would be good to resign. In my past I have - once I walked out and someone came out after me and asked me to go back and the problem was sorted. Our lives are different

Your supervisor needs reporting and I hope you can do it - it does sound lonely all by yourself in your corner cleaning baskets. I remember that you were hired to work in the bakery and so - do you know how it came to pass that you are cleaning baskets and is this job necessary because of COVID? I am sure baskets were not cleaned all the often where I shop. It has always seemed a bit odd to me but I don't know what happens behind the scenes so I didn't think much but I have during the last few days. I hope you can talk to your manager because it's not good that you are so unhappy and have your hours reduced. I know you are a hard and willing worker so it's wrong that you are treated this way.

I wish you the best with that

I am glad you are firm about not having any thing to do with your mother and yes - your father has made his choices. As did mine. I remember going to Dad's 80th but not my parents' 60th wedding anniversary - Dad did want me in the family and took control of the situation when possible and rang me. Tensions like that have collateral damage - stick to your guns and focus on one day - a whole life-time is too much

You were right to go for the job interview and it is disappointing not to hear about whether you have it or not when they say they will contact you - you don't know why they didn't ring though - perhaps they had more interviews - perhaps the person who would ring you was off-work or otherwise unable to ring. I hope you have heard something by now - I know it's tough but not going to an interview because you think you mightn't get the job is futile - it's one sure way of not getting the job

I do hear you - and sorry I haven't posted earlier - I haven't been up to using my computer much because of my shoulder - and I am very tired because of the pain. I am used to pain but no one likes it - something I insist on saying to people at times -

I am still here for you

Re: Need to vent

Pls don't apologise for not replying earlier @Owlunar i do understand.
Not sure if you remember - I had carpal tunnel surgery and back pain couldn't go back to bakery. Thsts when I asked for something else. But now I'm sick of doing the same biting job. We are the only supermarket that is still cleaning baskets. I don't know why.

im still feeling very overwhelmed used and emotional.

I'm not sure I'm strong enough to talk to management. I get scared very quickly.

I hope your shoulder is ok.

Re: Need to vent

Yeah - it does suck @BlueBay

You do have some choices though - I guess you know that though

You can go on hating all of this or screw up all your courage and talk to the manager

Or resign or cancel the shift or just not turn up. All tough I know

But what's the best thing for you? I can't imagine what it's like to hate your job so much or how it feels to be afraid to talk to the manager

What's the worst thing that can happen if you talk to your manager?

ActuallyI have been thinking someone might have done this for you after you cried at work - they let you go home early

It's rough but how long can you battle with this - you were hired to work in the bakery and the woman said you were a good worker there and the baskets don't need cleaning anyway -

It's up to you and I am sure you can do this and need to

Of course I care and want the best for you

Re: Need to vent

Hey @BlueBay ,

It's okay to feel like you don't want to go to work. These are FEELINGS. Your feelings change and are probably dependent on your environment. For example, if someone treats you nicely at work, then you really want to go to work; but if someone treats you poorly, then you don't want to go to work. Does that sound familiar?

This is how I see it. It would be nice if everyone loved me at work, talked to me, laughed with me, wanted to hang out with me. But ultimately, I'm not at work to make friends. I'm at work to:

- do my job

- bring in money

- walk out at the end of the day and leave work at work.

When I first started my career, my one most powerful boundary I promised myself was:

"Home stays at home; work stays at work."

In other words, I leave my personal problems at home, and also, I don't take my work home. This strong boundary has kept me sane.

All the best,

BPDSurvivor

Re: Need to vent

Hi there @BlueBay ... I note you have not posted in a couple of days.

Did you manage to get to work yesterday? And how did it go? Perhaps you spoke to the manager.

One thing I want to stress is that you are NOT a real loser or a hopeless person. Far from it.

This is necessarily brief, but I spotted you online and wanted to let you know I am here for you and hope you're okay.
