CBT does anyone get this?

CBT does anyone get this?

Just started my first CBT with my psychologist today. I learnt a little about it when I was on hospital. Logically it makes sense. No problem there. The problem lies in the fact that I'm not aware I'm doing this 'cognitive distortion', when I'm doing it.
How have others learnt to use this therapy? How or when fo you catch yourself doing it?
I really want to master this.
Thanks in advance.

@Former-Member. I'm sorry you aren't going well today. Don't worry about me. I was just cranky to start. You didn't create my cranky. & you & Tab were having a great deep chat.
Sometimes we are a bit sensitive on this site
But don't take it to heart. People enjoy talking with you.

It might start with people close to you telling your doing it. but without being paranod you with be contious of it and will work out away to notice it ( say you have a car behind you and it is annoying you as you think he is to close!, instead of getting anxieous try telling your self that every thing is ok, even go as far as to pull over and let them go if you can, tell your self to relax and do some controlled breathing exercises. as you go through CBT you might learn how to handle your triggers better through being able to sit wit the thought of the bad memories until the anxiety lessons, and over time it will lesson the anxiety you have by more and more. If you worried take to your Psychiatrist/Psychologist about it, their is some good technics for this.

Embrass it and learn to have the will to continue to help your self and learn. Be patient. The fact you believe enough to be doing CBT means your on the right path and are half way there! keep at it.

@utopia..👍...ive read a little more, I think with CBT it's frustrating because it's almost like somethings are so common sense, I go tick yep done, to run off and hit blank again. It's a process for sure! I've been thinking elsewhere, like if my situation involves undiagnosed ADHD. In a sense I feel I'm getting worse memory wise, more flippant I guess in how I'm approaching my life...I get lost in moments & achieve nothing. I hope today is a but brighter for you. .I do remember with the last therapist I saw it took me a few days to digest my sessions. It's annoying when we have stuff on the tip of our tongue but unable to effectively communicate it all. 😏
