Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

Hi @NatureLover

Thanks for your thoughtful note. I'm struggling along.

Had a psychiatrist appt and he's recommended to add an antipsychotic to my medication cocktail. Problem is I went to get the script dispensed and it's $115 per month. Even with my health insurance pharmacy extras it's $65 out of pocket. My medications already cost a lot each month and soon I'll be paying for a psychologist $120 per session. Gee, it's really expensive being unwell.

Ive emailed my psychiatrist to raise my concern over cost to see if he can predict how long I'd need to be taking it for. 6 months, I could deal with, but if it's a lifelong thing, forget it.

So I burst into tears when the chemist told me how much it was, and only settling now.

How are you travelling?

Yikes @WIP why is everything so expensive?? I had one that cost about that much but the mh nurse is injecting me with a potion.

its not right to charge so much just to help us function!!

Hiya @Eve7

My psychiatrist gave me a call after he received my email, and said it wasn't sustainable for me to take the antipsychotic long term due to the cost, so we've bumped up my antidepressant to the maximum amount. I'm running out of options if this increase doesn't help.
Feeling pretty bummed and hopeless about it all to be honest.

I just want to feel a little better, stop being in so much pain. Everyday is a struggle just to survive. I cry most of the day away. It's not a life, it's just an existence.

How are you going @Eve7

Re: Changing meds

I am sorry to hear that @WIP and unfortunately I am much the same. Some days are better / worse than others by I also cry a lot.

I have a new psycholigist and we’re working on mindfulness / grounding so maybe that will help.

My pdoc has been very supportive but he’s beginning to look a tad disappointed too.

At least we know how we both feel and understand the struggle. Here for you anytime my friend.

Re: Changing meds

Thanks very much @Eve7

That means a lot. I so very lonely and not coping south stage 4 lockdown.

i was so disappointed after my psychiatrist appt this morning, and when we spoke on the phone after. I could sense disappointment in his voice.

He's running out of options for me, and will suggest ECT again and I just won't do it after my previous experience.

I hate crying every day, and feeling so useless.
I don't know what more to do to help myself.
The inconsistency of how I feel each morning when I wake is unbearable.

Re: Changing meds

That’s a shame about your pdoc consult today @WIP

I’ve had a lot of ECT this year and I know there aren’t many options after that. I can’t have any more until December but I know that’s the first thing pdoc will suggest if I’m still the same then.

I am really trying with the distraction tools at present but it’s hard when you just feel like crap all the time.

I have relatives in Vic who are finding it really tough too.

Have you been out today at all.

Re: Changing meds

Oh @WIP , I'm really sorry to hear that the anti-psychotic med is out of your reach financially. That really sucks 😞

I hear you when you say every day is a struggle just to survive.

I don't have many words, today, but I'm thinking of you and hoping that you're OK...

Re: Changing meds

Oh @NatureLover It is what it is (I totally hate that saying and very rarely use it), but that's just the way things are at the moment.

We'll see how the increase in my antidepressant goes over the next 2 weeks & just hope for the best.

Mum Did say she'd help me out financially for the new augmentation antipsychotic he suggested, but it depends on how long I'd need to be in it & that's even if it works.

Im just hoping the increase in AD med, along with psychology sessions, better weather coming along soon and lockdown restrictions eased - everything combined might have some Positive impact.

How are you going today? I'm in survival mode again. Didn't sleep well & woke up feeling crappy.
